Social Work Training Certificate
Upper Iowa University offers the preparation needed for the Wisconsin Social Work Training Certificate (SWTC). SWTC courses may be taken as part of a UIU degree program (human services, criminal justice, psychology) or individually as a non-degree seeking student with an approved bachelor’s degree to meet state requirements.
Upper Iowa University’s courses are approved by the state of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS). The approved coursework includes
- PSY 383 Human Behavior in the Social Environment
- PSY 319 Social Work Practice I: Individuals
- PSY 392 Social Work Practice II: Families and Groups
- PSY 393 Social Work Practice III: Communities and Social Institutions
- SOC 384 Social Welfare Programs and Policies
- PSY 403 Internship – 9 credits
The Social Work Training Certificate is offered through UIU's Online Program and these UIU locations:
- La Crosse
- Prairie du Chien
Completion of a degree, coursework or internship does not guarantee issuance of a SWTC by the state of Wisconsin. Additional information about Wisconsin state requirements related to the Social Work Training Certificate may be found at the DSPS website
A Social Worker Training Certificate (SWTC) may be issued by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services after degree completion. UIU majors of Criminal Justice, Human Services, or Psychology who wish to work in Wisconsin for an agency, institution or organization in a social work capacity may apply. Non-degree-seeking students planning to work in Wisconsin who have completed a human services related major or majors in criminal justice, psychology or sociology and wish to work in Wisconsin in a social work capacity may also be considered to receive a SWTC by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.
