Life Science Major

Department of Biology and Chemistry The Life Science major will challenge students to grow as an individual, prepare for their career path, and develop the necessary skills for success as a working science professional.

The Life Science major has two emphases:

The general emphasis is intended for pre-service teachers hoping to teach biological science, those hoping to go into scientific industry, or those who are hoping to specialize their science classes more to suit their specific career needs.

The plant science emphasis prepares students for plant-based careers like turf grass and golf course management, or students could specialize their courses of study further to prepare for entry into graduate school.

Coursework includes a mix of classroom and fieldwork emphasizing practical applications.

Career opportunities

Plant science emphasis careers:

  • Golf-course superintendent
  • Landscape managers

Take it from our student

“I’m always sending students to Fayette to further their education. Upper Iowa has an altogether great atmosphere for learning. It’s nice to have a campus all in one spot, and it’s so easy to communicate with everyone – from admissions to financial aid to faculty – everyone. I got that vibe right away when I went up for orientation.”
