Association (SGA)

UIU’s Student Government Association exists to represent the collective voice of the student body while encompassing the spirit of the Upper Iowa community through service, programming and legislation. We are committed to understanding the needs of students and advocating on your behalf. Through continuous interaction with students, faculty, staff and administration, the organization works to improve and enhance the quality of the student experience.

Student Government Association promotes the welfare of the academic, cultural and social aspects of Upper Iowa University. It also encourages involvement and provides opportunities to develop a lifetime relationship with Upper Iowa University for each student.

Meetings

All SGA meetings are at 12:15 p.m. on the second Monday of every month in the Student Center Leadership Center unless stated otherwise. Emails will be sent to fellow students via the SGA email before every scheduled meeting with the agenda. Students can also join meetings virtually via zoom: https://uiu.zoom.us/j/82129055271

Angelina Monfrey

President

Angelina is a senior majoring in psychology with a minor in art. She is a member of Beta Theta Omega, the Student Philanthropy Council, the Psychology Club, and a Student Ambassador. As SGA President, Angelina wants to help lead UIU to a brighter future. This year, Angelina hopes to build a community between the city of Fayette and enhance the student experience in the community.

Vice President

Myah is a junior majoring in Secondary Education. She is involved in Track & Field, the President of the National Society of Leadership & Success, Treasurer of the Education Club, Treasurer and Social Media Coordinator for Best Buddies, and a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  As Vice President of SGA, Myah is working to increase student participation in events and organizing events that meet the students’ interests. Myah is driven to get to know all students and enjoys serving on committees and bridging gaps between students, faculty and staff.

Secretary

Rio is a sophomore and still exploring majors at UIU. She is involved in Women’s Wrestling, E.Y.E., the National Society of Leadership & Success, Peacocks for Progress, Best Buddies, the Student Philanthropy Council, and also works as a Resident Assistant. She brings a lot of experience to this position having served as Secretary of her 4-H club for six years, the Class of 2023 Secretary, and the secretary for the National Honor Society. Rio is detail-oriented, which is why she enjoys and excels in the role of secretary. In her role on SGA she hopes to learn more about the Student Government Association, help student clubs and organizations, and plan fun campus events.

Treasurer & Online/Center Liaison

Natalie is a junior majoring in Elementary Education. She is involved in the Education Club and Phi Beta Delta. Natalie ran for SGA because she wanted to get to know more students and help spread happiness. Next year, she hopes the students will leverage her as a support and helping hand.

Greek Organization Representative

Jamie is a junior but is en route to graduate from UIU in three years. She is majoring in Business with an emphasis in Health Services. Jamie is involved in Beta Theta Omega, the Science & Environment Club, and also works as a Resident Assistant and work-study in Student Life. Jamie strives to give members involved in Greek life on campus a voice and create a comfortable atmosphere in which to voice their concerns or suggestions. She wants to represent the students well and promote leadership and inclusion.
