Upper Iowa University Master of Public Administration Program Mission: “The UIU MPA program provides an opportunity for a diverse population of adult learners to develop the administrative, analytical, leadership, and managerial skills needed to promote the public good and strengthen core democratic values through service in government and non-profit organizations.”

Program Overview and Invitation

Welcome to the UIU MPA program. As an adult learner with often conflicting demands on your time, pursuing a graduate degree represents a substantial investment on your part. We fully understand and respect your need to find a quality yet flexible program. It is with this in mind that our UIU MPA faculty has dedicated itself to providing you with a relevant and rigorous academic program that challenges you to achieve more. As a graduate of our program we want you to be able to achieve your personal career goals while adding value to your organization.

Our MPA program strives to instill in learners an appreciation for how market efficiency and democratic values must be respected and balanced to promote the public good. Through the integration of theory and practice, UIU learners will be able to apply their analytical, communication, problem solving and research skills to the complex and often interconnected and interdisciplinary problems faced by mangers and leaders in government agencies and non-profit organizations. Because UIU graduates are able to leverage the connections between theory and practice to help solve problems, they will be well qualified to assume managerial and leadership positions in the government and in the non-profit sector.

UIU offers a flexible program that provides the essential components of a well-rounded public administration education while allowing learners the flexibility to design a course of study that meets their specific career goals. We offer emphasis areas in government administration, nonprofit organizations, public personnel management, health and human services, and justice and homeland security. Our goal is to develop graduates who, because they respect democratic values, know how to use the tools of public administration to promote the public good.
