The GEM program is a partnership between the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) and selected academic institutions.

The program offers the 15 semester hour cluster of General Education courses required for the award of the A.A.S. degree of the CCAF.

The GEM partnership enables CCAF student to complete their General Education requirements either from a single institution to create academic continuity or from multiple institutions to create a flexible educational experience.

Upper Iowa University has partnered with GEM to offer general education courses online for Air and Space Force personnel who want to complete their CCAF Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree requirements.

Getting Started in the GEM Program

 

Search and register for classes by following the steps outlined below.

  1. Go to the Air Force Virtual Education Center and view Upper Iowa University GEM courses.
  2. Apply for admission to Upper Iowa University.
  3. Register for courses through your UIU Academic Advisor.
  4. Apply and submit Air Force Tuition Assistance Forms. When asked for Upper Iowa University’s OPEID, enter 00189300. Please keep in mind that TA Authorization can be submitted 45 days before the first day of class but must be submitted no later than 7 days prior to the first day of class. Once your TA is approved, email a copy to your UIU Academic Advisor for processing.

There is no application fee for Upper Iowa University.

Note: When enrolling in a course, please be sure to complete your tuition assistance form within the Air Force Virtual Education Center and send it to your Academic Advisor for processing.
