This course examines the tools and techniques used to conduct investigations into cybercrimes and teaches the defensive skills necessary to ensure a breach doesn’t occur in the first place. In this course, students will learn hands-on techniques for attacking and penetrating networks and systems. The Capstone course is the culmination of the Cybersecurity program, allowing student to apply their knowledge to real-world challenges. Students will undertake a comprehensive project integrating various aspects of cybersecurity, including log analysis, vulnerability assessment, incident response, ethical hacking, and cloud security. This project will develop critical thinking skills and prepare student for major cybersecurity certifications. Companies storing information are responsible for keeping it safe – and face consequences if they don’t. Students will be able to manage the growing legal obligations around cybersecurity in a data-driven, business world. This course covers corporate governance principles, risk identification methods, business regulations, accountability, and audits. Cybersecurity is essential to ensure systems are secure by understanding the design and the unique security challenges of different network architectures and data storage solutions. Student will be able to critique security for various network designs, including IT and OT systems, cloud environments, data storage, and loT networks, in terms of cyber risk. Cyberattacks are inevitable, but the extent of the damage may rely on how much the manager is prepared. Students will be able to create risk management strategies before, during, and after cyberattacks, developing incident response plans, understanding frameworks like NIST and MITRE ATT&CK, identify proactive and reactive protection techniques, and debrief with ‘hotwashes.’ This course is offered via Upper Iowa University’s (UIU) partnership with Rize. This course covers the fundamentals of ethical hacking, from Linux commands and open-source tools to attack tree construction and vulnerability research. By the end of the course, students will be able to analyze, interpret, and communicate penetration tests and security strategies to executives, understanding hacking in order to prevent it.
