Even before Upper Iowa University celebrated its 2020 and 2021 graduating classes on May 8, UIU students, faculty and staff were already anticipating the start of in-person classes this fall. With it are plans for offices and academic services to be available for in-person visits at all 21 U.S. education locations, pending state and local restrictions. In addition, residential living, student activities, food service, and all other aspects of campus life at Fayette Campus are expected to once again have the familiar feel of a vibrant community.

UIU President William R. Duffy II

“Our planning teams continue to collaborate closely with Public Health and monitor COVID-19 in each respective area,” UIU President William R. Duffy II said.  “If things continue to trend as they have the last few months, our students should be close to enjoying the same unique Peacock experience that they did prior to the pandemic. One thing is certain—students will continue to get a quality education and an engaging university experience unlike any other.”

In addition to Commencement, UIU has begun to carefully host internal and external events on Campus, such as Orientation, Advising and Registration (OAR) Days, Visit Days, ACT testing, summer athletic camps, weddings, and the Northeast Iowa Community College – Calmar location commencement ceremony. UIU officials will continue to work with public health agencies to receive guidance on best practices for safely hosting each event.

UIU students, faculty and staff continue to be asked to maintain distancing, wear face coverings in group settings or when distancing is not possible, practice good hand hygiene and stay home when ill to further limit the potential spread of COVID-19. UIU encourages students, faculty and staff to be vaccinated when able. As Session 1 nears, UIU will provide all students, faculty and staff with additional information and guidance.

A private, nonprofit university, UIU provides undergraduate and graduate degree programs to about 4,500 students at 21 U.S. education locations, including its main Fayette Campus. For additional information about Upper Iowa University, visit uiu.edu or call 800.553.4150.
