The Upper Iowa University (UIU) community stepped up once again for the 8th annual Giving Day, bringing together students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of the University.
The April 24 & 25 event generated over $125,000 thanks to more than 250 supporters. The “Battle of the Generations” themed Giving Day fostered friendly competition among five specific generations of UIU alumni; Silent Generation (those born 1928-1945), Baby Boomers (born 1946-1964), Generation X (born 1965-1980), Millennials (born 1981-1996) and Gen Z (born 1997-2012). Donors could choose from five projects supporting the UIU Fund, Academics at UIU, Refueling Station, General Scholarships, or President Franken’s Inauguration Fundraiser (Peacock EmpowHERment). Every UIU generation stepped up with tremendous support, with the Baby Boomer contingent of alumni leading the way with 106 donors and $59, 331 raised.
“UIU’s Alumni Office, supported by faculty and staff across campus, had a great time engaging donors spanning generations,” said Andrew Wenthe, Vice President for External Affairs. “We received donations from Peacocks ages 19-92 and once again showed that UIU enjoys great support from alumni and friends.”
The annual Giving Day event helps UIU continue to offer students a quality education that is affordable and accessible. Over its eight years, Giving Day has generated more than $850,000 in donations. The University is exceptionally grateful to all the incredible donors whose generous support was pivotal in achieving this year’s fundraising goal.
UIU Giving Day is just one more example of how donors have made a difference for UIU this year. Since July 2023, nearly $4.7 million has been received from nearly 2000 unique donors, and over $6.7 million in outright gifts and commitments have been secured toward a goal of $8 million since April 2023. Notably, 55% of UIU faculty and staff have made a gift during UIU’s current fiscal year.
