Upper Iowa University (UIU) extends a cordial invitation to the public for its annual Veterans Day program scheduled for Tuesday, November 11. The event will feature SSG (Ret) Jake Hurley as keynote speaker of this year’s event.
SSG (Ret) Jake Hurley
Jake is a 1998 graduate of Oelwein High School & currently resides in Cedar Rapids with his wife, Jenny, and three sons, Dillon, Spencer, and Cooper. SSG Hurley received his Bachelor of Arts degree (Graphic Design) online from Upper Iowa University in 2022 and currently works for the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Medical Support Assistant at the VA Hospital in Iowa City. SSG Hurley served over 22 years in the Iowa Army National Guard as a bugler/trumpet player for the 34th Army Band based out of Fairfield, Iowa. SSG Hurley also worked full-time for the National Guard in various capacities in the Supply, Admin, Recruiting, and Human Resources fields until his retirement in 2021.
The 2025 Veterans Day programs is scheduled to begin at 12:15 p.m. The event will take place in the Student Center ballrooms at UIU’s Fayette Campus, with the Fayette American Legion Post 339 presenting the colors. Attendees are invited to join in a complimentary lunch and enjoy fellowship as the program concludes.
