Professional Licensing Disclosure

If your career requires professional licensure, your license to practice may have specific state or national requirements.

If you are seeking a license for your field, you may need to reach out to a licensing entity or state agency to receive your credentials.

Learn more below about specific state requirements.

Accounting

All states and territories require 150 credit hours for licensure; therefore, the BS in Accounting program alone does not meet the educational requirements for licensure as a CPA. In some states, applicants may have the option to sit for the CPA examination while completing their additional coursework.

Master of Science in Counseling Program

UIU Counseling Program Licensure Disclosure

Upper Iowa University Online Counseling degree program in Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling has been designed to meet the licensure/certification state requirements for licensing in most states.  The licensure boards in each state are responsible for establishing the requirements for licensure/certification for their states.  Therefore, the state professional licensing boards make the ultimate decision as to whether or not an individual will be eligible to sit for licensure based on the rules, policies and regulations in place at the time the individual submits their application for licensure/certification.  The online in Counseling program strongly encourages the individual to contact the appropriate licensing board in their state before beginning their academic program (see below). Additionally, the individual can consult with the Counseling program Faculty Advisor or Director about state requirements for licensing/certification in the state where they intend to practice.

Graduate Student Responsibility

Graduate students are strongly encouraged to review the specific academic requirements in the online Counseling program, including those related to practicum and/or internship, as well as pre-qualifications for licensure such as the need for a criminal background check.  The Counseling program highly recommend that students contact the applicable licensure board(s) in their states of residence or in the state where they intend to obtain a license before beginning their academic program that results in licensure and prior to beginning any practicum and/or internship.  Many licensure boards require more than successful degree completion to obtain a license.  Please be advised that state laws, regulations, and policies may change at any time. Changes in requirements can impact the program’s ability to meet educational requirements for licensure.  It is the responsibility of the student completing the licensure program to check with the licensing board(s) in their state of residence or in the state in which they intend to obtain a license for the most recent information and requirements.  Upper Iowa University shall not be held liable if the graduate student is unable to qualify for licensure or certification in any jurisdiction or cannot obtain a practicum and/or internship site.
