EDU 555 Launching Daily 5® and CAFE® and EDU 533 Launching Math Daily 3®

Launching Daily 5® and CAFE® and Launching Math Daily 3® are 3 credit, online graduate level courses. They are the only courses approved by The 2 Sisters, Gail Boushey and Joan Moser (authors of the books). These courses are online courses that will last eight weeks.

What is EDU 555?

Launching Daily 5® and CAFE® is a 3 credit, online graduate level course. It is the only course approved by The 2 Sisters, Gail Boushey and Joan Moser (authors of the books). This course is an online course that will last eight weeks. It is aimed at providing students with a foundational understanding of both Daily 5® and CAFE®. Emphasis will be placed on Daily 5® and CAFE® research-based practices in literacy instruction along with materials, methods, and skills used to teach students reading in grades K-8. Components examined include: classroom design, brain research, motivation in teaching and learning, developing independence, organizing student data, brief and detailed focused lessons, differentiation in the literacy classroom, moving from assessment to instruction, and monitoring student progress. Upon completion, practitioners will have the knowledge to successfully implement both Daily 5® and CAFE® in their own classrooms.

What is EDU 533?

Launching Math Daily 3® is a 3 credit, online graduate level course. It is the only Math Daily 3 course approved by The 2 Sisters, Gail Boushey and Joan Moser. This course is an online course that will last eight weeks. It is aimed at providing students with a foundational understanding of Math Daily 3. Emphasis will be placed on Math Daily 3 research-based instructional practices along with materials, methods, and skills used to teach students math in grades K-6. Components examined include: classroom design, brain research, motivation in teaching and learning, developing student independence, organizing student data, brief and detailed focused lessons, and differentiation in the mathematics classroom. Upon completion, practitioners will have the knowledge to successfully implement the Math Daily 3 framework in their own classrooms.

When does the next session begin?

Term 5:  May 8th through July 2nd, 2017 (Registration open March 13th – May 4th)
Term 6:  July 3rd through August 27th, 2017 (Registration open March 13th – June 29th)

How do I request to register for these classes?

  • On the next page, choose Graduate Program Application

  • Fill out the graduate program application form.
  • On question 1, indicate academic year
  • On question 2, indicate the term you want
  • On question 3, choose no—you are not degree seeking.
  • For questions 4 choose Non-Degree Seeking (Graduate Work)
  • For question 5 choose Two Sisters-Daily 5/Daily3
  • Fill out the rest of the application.
  • For Textbox #14, please indicate which course you want to take (Daily 5, Daily 3 or Both)
  • When you are finished completing the application, be sure to hit “Submit”

Individuals who successfully submit their application will be contacted with additional information about completing the official registration process. Please be sure to check your spam folders to ensure you do not miss this information. Please allow 2-3 days for confirmation. 

Once you have submitted your application, please email a copy of your current teaching license to iecoperations@uiu.edu (if you do not have a copy of your current teaching license you can also provide a copy of your transcript showing your conferred degree in education).

Students are registered on a first-come, first-served basis.

How much does it cost? How do I pay?

Because of a special formal agreement with The 2 Sisters, Upper Iowa University is pleased to offer the courses EDU 533 Launching Math Daily 3® and EDU 555 Launching Daily 5® and CAFE® at a reduced tuition rate of $485 for each class. This rate does not apply to any other UIU graduate-level course. 

How do I pay? Once your application and license are received, you will be registered for the course. At that time, you will be provided with instructions via email to complete the payment process through the myUIU portal.
