Anita Jung exhibit to open
FAYETTE, Iowa (February 11, 2016) – Upper Iowa University will welcome an Iowa City artist to its Fayette campus on Thursday, Feb. 18. A professor of the University of Iowa’s printmaking program, Anita Jung will open “Skies are White/Clouds are Blue” at Bing-Davis Memorial Gallery with a reception from 3:30 - 5 p.m. Preceding the reception, Jung will host an art lecture from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.
“This work is an optimistic look at a dystopian world. Made over the past three years, the materials reference their heritage within printmaking,” said Jung. “Materials in the work are comprised of the ephemeral, overlooked, covered over, or discarded debris that occupy the backgrounds of our lives. Through reactivation they transform the mundane into something that is familiar, yet leads to new discovery.
“The work builds upon a feminist tradition and sensibility, striving toward discussions of social relevancy. The work comes from site- specific collaborations with the material debris of makers and occupiers of specific places,” she added. “My work is eclectic and investigates the everyday occurrence of being a human being engaged in the world.”
Jung earned a bachelor of fine arts degree at Arizona State University where she majored in painting and drawing. A master of fine arts was later awarded to her at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her works of art have been exhibited throughout the United States in juried, invitational and solo exhibitions.
The “Skies are White/Clouds are Blue” exhibit will remain open to the public during regular gallery hours through Friday, March 25.
Bing-Davis Memorial Gallery is located in the Edgar Fine Arts Hall on the Upper Iowa University Fayette Campus. The gallery is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The complete 2015-2016 Bing-Davis Memorial Gallery schedule can be viewed online.
