Team Peacock

2019 Team Peacock logo

Upper Iowa University’s Team Peacock will celebrate its 15th year participating in the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI)—the oldest, largest and longest bicycle touring event in the world!  Since 2005, our team has raised more than one million dollars to support students and University projects. This year, Team Peacock will be making a trek across the state of Iowa, July 21-27, 2019, for the 47th annual RAGBRAI and we want YOU to join us!

The 2019 RAGBRAI host communities were just announced and include Council Bluffs, Atlantic, Winterset, Indianola, Centerville, Fairfield, Burlington and Keokuk. Many more details about the 427-mile trek may be found at

Show your Support!

Team Peacock is a fundraising venture for Upper Iowa University. Each rider chooses a University project or program they are most passionate about to raise money for. Last year the team raised over $38,000 for UIU! Show your support of this great project by making a donation to one (or several) of our riders! General donations to offset team expenses are also appreciated. Please use the designation "Team Peacock General Fund."

SPECIAL THANKS TO OUR 2019 SPONSORS:  Glen Kellerhals '67,  LaVerne McCoy '98

Why do alumni and friends of UIU join Team Peacock?

  • There’s a HUGE VALUE! In addition to gaining lots of new friends and enjoying camaraderie along the ride, Team Peacock will pay each rider’s RAGBRAI wristband fee ($175 value), and provide new riders with a Team Peacock biking jersey ($60 value). What a great benefit?!
  • Enjoy the luxuries of the Peacock Support Crew! They will take care of your camping accommodations on the route. Locations vary, but in the past they have included alumni residences, city and state parks. The Team Peacock crew will set up camp each day for riders. This includes popping up your tent and making available portable hot showers and restrooms when not provided by a host. Our drink station and breakfast/snack bar includes water, sports drinks, ice, light snacks, bananas and coffee. In addition, daily laundry service is provided for the riders’ cycling gear. Transportation services will ensure your personal camping gear is safely and securely transported to the starting point as well as each town along the route. Each rider shall pay a $125 week-long camp fee (or $30 per day for daily riders) which covers all the services and amenities previously mentioned.
  • Make a difference for Upper Iowa University! Team Peacock is a fundraising venture for UIU. Each rider may select a University fund, project or program to support. Options include, but are not limited to:  scholarships, Dean’s funds, UIU annual fund, and athletics. Contact the Alumni Office at 563-425-5238 to help select an option best for you. Team members are responsible for a fundraising goal, based on the categories below. 100% goal fulfillment is required by Friday, July 12, 2019.
UIU Affiliation Week-long Rider Goal Daily Rider Goal (up to 3 days)
Friend of UIU $1,000 $250/day
UIU Faculty, Staff or Board of Trustee rider $750 $150/day
UIU Alumni, Student, Parent, or Non-rider $500 $100/day

The Office of Institutional Advancement and Alumni Development will provide some marketing and fundraising support for Team Peacock participants, but ultimately it is up to each rider to creatively and aggressively meet their goal.
