What is uiuFlex Semester?

Upper Iowa University’s uiuFlex Semester is a learning experience where course outcomes are met through the delivery of content and learning materials through uiuLearn with direct feedback from the instructor throughout the semester.

How does uiuFlex Semester work?

uiuFlex Semester courses are web-based using the online learning management system. This learning experience requires students to complete an academic interaction within the first week (seven days) of the semester and at least every 14 days thereafter. The enrollment period for a uiuFlex Semester course is 16 weeks.

Validation of attendance for a uiuFlex Semester course occurs when a student has an academic interaction in the learning management system (uiuLearn) with a quiz completion or assignment submission during the first seven days of the semester.

Advantages of the uiuFlex Semester Program:

  • Allows you to learn in new ways
  • Makes learning available to those who cannot attend a traditional class
  • 3 start dates a year with rolling admission
  • Transfer up to 78 lower division and 12 upper division credits to UIU
  • Proctored exams are not required for students taking web-based course

uiuFlex Semester Requirements

  • Computer and internet access are required to view course materials and complete assignments on UIU’s online learning platform, uiuLearn.

Am I eligible for financial assistance?

Federal and state aid is determined by completing the FAFSA annually. Tuition assistance and veterans’ benefits are determined based on other qualifications.

Eligibility is determined based on the number of credit hours in which a student enrolls. Students must be enrolled in at least 6 semester hours of credit in undergraduate courses to receive most financial assistance. Students are eligible for Pell grants, tuition assistance, and veterans’ benefits when registered at least half-time for the semester. Three semester hours of credit in a semester is less-than-half-time for the undergraduate program. Six semester hours of credit in a semester is half-time for an undergraduate program. Twelve semester hours of credit in a semester is full-time for an undergraduate program.

Students may combine registrations in uiuFlex Semester, uiuLive courses, and online courses to meet the half-time status required for financial assistance.
