Upper Iowa University cheerleaders march in a parade

As seasons change and fall arrives, we can count on three things: cozy sweaters on cool mornings, beautifully colored leaves, and UIU football. UIU Homecoming is on the horizon and with it comes fun and excitement for all. Show your Peacock Pride and celebrate UIU Homecoming Week, October 9-14. This year’s theme is “All In For UIU.”

Monday, October 9, all are encouraged to show Blue Pride Worldwide. Wear blue, decorate your office or front porch, and go wild with Peacock sidewalk creations. Use the hashtag #UIUHomecoming to share your creativity.

Don’t miss the action in Dorman Gym as UIU Volleyball battles Winona State on Tuesday, October 10, at 6 p.m.

You scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream at the Ice Cream Social happening at Grace Meyer Square, on Wednesday, October 11, at 2 p.m. The crowning of King and Queen will take place during the Pep Rally, Coronation and Bonfire at 7:30 p.m.

There’s no better way to kick off the weekend than the Welcome Home Dinner at Pete’s Bar & Grill in downtown Fayette. This all-class reunion is complimentary and open to all on Thursday, October 12 at 5:30 p.m. RSVPs are required.

Take part in the Homecoming Golf Tournament, at Big Rock Country Club, on Friday, October 13. Registration begins at 9 a.m. All proceeds support the Peacock Athletic Fund. To sign up, contact Rick Knipper ’73 at 319-530-2343

Also on Friday, come see the talent of UIU students. View their featured academic projects at the Research & Internship Poster Session at Baker-Hebron Hall, at 1 p.m.

Later that evening at 5:30 p.m., guests may enjoy a cocktail reception, dinner program, and dancing at the 11th Annual President’s Fundraising Ball. Tickets are required for this formal affair and may be purchased online at uiu.edu/PresidentsBall. This year’s theme is “Light Up the Night!”

Saturday, October 14, stop by the Archives Takeaway Display & Social to view (and take!) memorabilia, photos, and articles set out by our UIU Archivist.

Stick around, because all are invited to celebrate UIU’s newest alumni award honorees and recognize the 50th reunion classmates – the Class of 1973. It’s all happening at the Alumni Awards & Honor Class Brunch. This event is complimentary, however, RSVPs are required.

What are the odds on Saturday, the 14th there will be a Partial Solar Eclipse? Join others on the central campus to safely view this rare phenomenon.

At noon, enjoy the Homecoming Parade – or better yet, be part of it! Submit an entry at uiu.edu/uiuHCparade.

Back by popular demand, the Alumni House Tailgate Party is happening at 12:30 p.m. Make your way to 513 Union Street, Fayette; drinks and refreshments are available and freewill donations are appreciated.

Kickoff for the UIU Homecoming football game begins at 3 p.m. for the battle against the McKendree University Bearcats. Come cheer the Peacocks on to a victory!

Starting at 8 p.m., make plans to attend the Casino Night & Post-Game Bash at Pete’s Bar & Grill in downtown Fayette.
