TO: UIU students
SUBJECT: President’s Communication to Students – Vaccine Incentive Opportunity

Dear UIU Student,

As the start of Session 1 fast approaches, all students, staff and faculty continue to be encouraged to get a COVID-19 vaccine. The COVID vaccine has been tested for safety and is proven to be effective in recognizing and fighting the virus. Our successful efforts in achieving a higher vaccination rate will not only impact everyone here at UIU, but the health and safety of our surrounding communities. A high rate of vaccination in our community will also help us to deliver the dynamic and engaging living and learning experience that our students and graduates say makes Upper Iowa University exceptional.

As an incentive to help boost the vaccination rate at UIU, students who voluntarily provide proof of vaccination by August 27, will be entered into a drawing for one of 200 $50 gift cards to the UIU Campus Store. You may voluntarily submit a photo of your COVID-19 vaccination card by clicking this link: Forms Menu | Student Forms | myUIU (Please log into myUIU prior to clicking this link).

Proof of receiving the first dose of vaccine is acceptable, although everyone who participates in this incentive program is expected to complete both rounds of doses if receiving a two-dose vaccine. The University requests that individuals voluntarily submit the proof of vaccination prior to the August 27 deadline.

If you have not yet received a vaccine, please contact your physician, pharmacist, or local public health agency. Additional information on how to locate a vaccine near you is available here.

With everyone’s support we hope to continue to follow our current COVID-related practice of masks remaining optional for students, faculty and staff who are fully vaccinated, with the exception that we will follow local state and partnership requirements. Individuals who are not fully vaccinated are strongly encouraged to wear a mask when indoors or in group settings. This practice will continue to be reviewed and adjusted, if necessary, as we near the beginning of Session 1.

As members of the nationwide COVID-19 College Vaccine Challenge, we will continue our efforts to make the vaccine more accessible and get as many members of our college community vaccinated as possible. The UIU family is asked to also continue good hand hygiene, monitor any symptoms that occur, and stay home when ill. Remember, we all share the responsibility to provide the safest possible Campus environment and experience.

Thank you for remaining #peacockstrong!

Bill
