TO: Fayette Campus students, faculty and staff
SUBJECT: University COVID-19 Guidance Change
Good morning,
This message is being sent to communicate a change in university guidance related to COVID-19. Upper Iowa University has been consistent in following guidance provided by the CDC and other public health organizations in our efforts to keep our community safe throughout the pandemic. Yesterday, the CDC provided guidance that fully vaccinated individuals can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing.
In response to this announcement, UIU is amending our current policy that requires faculty, staff, students and campus visitors to wear face coverings when indoors or while in group settings. Effective immediately, individuals who are fully vaccinated will not be required to wear a face covering while on campus, except in rare circumstances. Please note that individuals are not considered to be fully vaccinated until two weeks after their second dose of a 2-dose series vaccine or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine. Individuals who are not fully vaccinated are required to wear a mask when indoors or when in group settings. This guidance is in place at all UIU locations except where otherwise directed by federal, state, local, tribal or territorial laws.
Those people fully vaccinated who are more comfortable continuing to wear a mask may certainly do so.
UIU continues to encourage vaccinations. If you have not yet received a vaccine, please contact your physician, pharmacist, or local public health agency. Additional information about how to get a vaccine is available here.
Thank you.
