General Education Mission
Ensuring a quality education
Upper Iowa University is committed to assuring that all undergraduate students, regardless of their academic program or intended profession, receive a broad education rooted in the arts and sciences.
The General Education Program goals of demonstrating technological literacy, exercising critical thinking, communicating more effectively, and engaging as members of a diverse community are known as the General Education Peacock Pillars.
The other two Peacock Pillars – master a body of knowledge within a discipline and master ethical standards within a discipline – are assessed within discipline-specific programs.
