TO:  Fayette Campus Faculty and Staff
SUBJECT:  President’s Communication to Fayette Faculty and Staff – COVID-19 Message

I hope each of you were able to enjoy your time with family and friends during this past holiday break. To help provide our students an extended healthful return to Fayette Campus for the start of Session 3, I forwarded them a message this morning asking them to review the UIU Care Plan and the recently updated CDC guidelines for quarantine and isolation. Please also familiarize yourself with this information.

Employees or students testing positive for COVID will be required to isolate for a period of five days. If symptoms subside after that period, the isolation period may end but masks should be worn for an additional five days. Employees or students exposed to COVID will follow different protocols depending on their vaccination status; please refer to the CDC guidelines or contact Human Resources with any questions as these guidelines evolve over time.

The health and safety of everyone at Fayette Campus and the entire Peacock community remains a top priority. Unfortunately, due to the current spike in COVID-19 cases and its variants, we should not be surprised to see an increase on our dashboard. Students placed in isolation and who choose to remain on campus will be housed in the Hofmaster Apartments. If additional housing is required, the students will reside on Garbee Hall’s first floor. During periods of quarantine and isolation, students will continue to be delivered meals, and will have a single point of contact through the Cares Team.

UIU continues to encourage COVID-19 vaccination, as the vaccines and boosters have been tested for safety and are proven to be effective in recognizing and fighting the virus. If you have not yet received a vaccine or booster, they are available right here in Fayette at Scott Pharmacy https://www.scottrx.com/. Otherwise, please contact your physician, pharmacist or local public health agency.

You are also reminded that the Recreation Center at Fayette Campus has been designated a Test Iowa at-home COVID-19 test kit pick-up site. The free test kits are available during the Recreation Center’s regular hours. A test kit may also be requested at https://www.testiowa.com/en or you can be tested at Scott Pharmacy.

Additional information about the UIU Care Plan, and other University health and safety guidelines related to COVID-19, can be found at uiu.edu/covid.

Thank you all for your efforts in continuing to make UIU a safe place for students to learn and thrive.

Thanks,

Bill
