Winter art classes for Fayette County kids
UIU art department offers Saturday art classes for elementary children
FAYETTE, IOWA (January 5, 2010) — Fayette County elementary school students can shake off the cold this winter by exercising their creativity during Saturday Art Program classes, which will again be offered on the Upper Iowa University campus.
“This program will bring creative experiences and a lot of fun to area children,” said UIU Art Professor John Siblik. “The idea for the Saturday Art Program at Upper Iowa came about through my past experiences and a personal desire to make available rich visual arts opportunities to the young people of Fayette County.”
Siblik added, “Furthermore, in conjunction with the Art Department and Education Department at Upper Iowa, I feel we can create valuable learning experiences for our students studying art education from the UIU Teacher Education Program. Our Art Education majors will be prepared with a complete curriculum unit and are really looking forward to being involved with this program.”
The Saturday Art Program will be presented as one-hour art classes, beginning at 1:00 p.m., on Jan. 16, 23, 30, and Feb. 6 in Rooms 302 and 307 of the Edgar Fine Arts Building. Students will have the chance to work with a variety of materials, including drawing, painting, printmaking, and clay.
To register for classes or find out more about the program, contact John Siblik at 563-425-5241 or e-mail siblikj@uiu.edu. There is a $10 registration fee.
