FAYETTE, Iowa (May 1, 2014) – Upper Iowa University will hold two commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 10, during the University's 152nd Commencement on the Fayette campus. Weather permitting, both ceremonies will be held outdoors at Harms-Eischeid Stadium. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved into Dorman Memorial Gymnasium.
John Stavnes, Wells Fargo Regional President, is the keynote speaker. Stavnes, from the Quad Cities area, started with Wells Fargo in 1981 and has served the company in Minneapolis, Minn., La Crosse, Wis., and Cedar Rapids and the Quad Cities in Iowa. A 1975 graduate of Upper Iowa University, he is responsible for the company's business banking operations in Eastern Iowa along with several Western Illinois markets.
Stavnes has been involved in many community activities, including board memberships with United Way, Variety Club, Davenport One, Quad City Development Group, Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce, Quad Cities Contributors Council, Kirkwood Community College Foundation, Scott Community College Foundation and the St. Ambrose University Business School Advisory Council.
Students from the UIU School of Business and masters of business administration program will receive diplomas at 10 a.m. The 2 p.m. Commencement ceremony will present diplomas to graduates from the Andres School of Education, and the Schools of Liberal Arts and Science and Mathematics, as well as from the masters of education and masters of higher education administration programs. Both the bachelor's and master's degrees in public administration also will be presented in the afternoon ceremony.
Although not all graduates participate in commencement, about 2,000 UIU students are eligible for graduation this year. Graduates represent not only the Fayette campus, but also UIU's 19 centers in the United States, its international centers, and the online or independent study programs.
