35 students honored at 27th annual NE Iowa High School art show at Upper Iowa University
FAYETTE, Iowa (April 23, 2010) –Thirty-five high school students from the area took home awards recently from the 27th annual Northeast Iowa High School Art Show, hosted by Upper Iowa University. The one-day event, which included a juried exhibit and guest speakers, was sponsored by Keystone Area Education Agency, Art Educators of Iowa and Upper Iowa University.
Juror for the show was Steven Lucke, 2010 Teacher of Year Finalist and Art Teacher at Bellevue School District, Bellevue, Iowa. More than 60 students from eight area high schools participated, according to John Siblik, UIU assistant professor of art and coordinator of this year’s show. Nearly 50 awards were presented in nine categories: drawing, colored drawing, sculpture, mixed media/craft, painting, graphic design/computer graphics/printmaking, photography, digital illustration and ceramics.
Participating high schools (and their art teacher) were: Clayton Ridge (Ruth Deutmeyer), Decorah(Elizabeth Lorentzen), MFL MarMac (Michelle Meyer), New Hampton (David Prehm), North Fayette (Ken Balk), Postville (Rose Schutte), South Winneshiek (Kathy Teff), and Starmont (Amanda Knox).
“This event is always an exciting experience for the students and for Upper Iowa University,” Siblik said. “We not only are pleased to honor many of these students for the works they have created, but we also enjoy seeing the wide variety of artwork they bring to campus and we appreciate the broad range of artistic talents that exist among the young artists in this area. We look forward to next year’s show and hope even more high schools encourage their students to participate.”
