Admissions Process
Application deadline for March 2013 (Des Moines & Cedar Rapids) is 1/14/2013. All materials must be received and fully approved by this date to be considered for admission to the nursing program.
Upper Iowa University’s RN to BSN Program utilizes both a hard copy application process as well as an online application submittal process. If you chose the complete the application online, please chose the "Undergraduate Transfer" application from the drop down box. The application procedure for admission to the RN to BSN Program is as follows:
1. An application packet must be completed and can be submitted in the following ways:

2. You can begin your studies at the time that works best for you. Although we encourage students to start the program in the Fall Term, you’re not locked into only one entry point. The Fayette and Mary Greeley Medical Center (Ames) locations only offer a Fall Term start date (nursing classes). The Cedar Rapids and Des Moines locations offer Fall start date in August and Spring Term begins in March (nursing classes).
3. Admission decisions will be made by the Nursing Department Chair and the Director of Admissions upon receipt of the following information:
- Current Iowa Licensure (or current RN licensure in the state the program).
- Evidence of CPR certification (send us a copy of your current certification card).
- Evidence of meeting current health requirements. See Student Instructions from CertifiedBackround.com.
- Official transcript(s) from all colleges attended AND
- High school transcript.
- Completed application form. Please choose the "Undergraduate Transfer" application from the drop down box.
- Completed background check. Click here for Student Instructions from CertifiedBackground.com.
- An overall college grade point average (GPA) of 2.5.
4. Notification of admission decision will be sent in writing to all applicants upon receipt of completed application.

- An RN license
- Evidence of CPR certification
- Evidence of meeting current
- GPA of 2.5 or higher
- Background Check
Transfer credit
Upper Iowa University accepts transfer credit from accredited community colleges and four-year colleges and universities. Not all credits for coursework completed at other institutions may be eligible for acceptance; each student’s transcript will be evaluated on an individual basis.
