Welcome Message

Alexander-Dickman Hall on UIU's Fayette, IA Campus
Welcome! We are excited you have taken time to visit our UIU MPA program.
As our world becomes increasingly interdependent and interconnected, the challenges facing communities are becoming more complex while financial resources are shrinking. Governments and nonprofit organizations need talented and dedicated leaders who can maximize the use of scarce resources to meet the needs of citizens.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics expects government employment to grow seven percent by 2018. Employment in the nonprofit sector is predicted to grow by 14%. On top of that, employment for people with master's degrees is expected to grow by 18 percent. Now is a great time to earn a graduate degree from UIU.
At Upper Iowa University the MPA program is committed to developing the leadership and administrative skills necessary for public administrators who wish to pursue a managerial career path within government and nonprofit organizations. Our curriculum is intended to provide our students with course specific knowledge that promotes analytical and critical thinking skills in the following emphasis areas: justice and homeland security, health and human services, public personnel management, government administration, nonprofit organizations, and general studies. Within the emphasis areas students are able to tailor a course of study that meets their unique career goals.
Acquiring skills without any appreciation for how to use them to improve the public good would hurt society and undermine our mission. The UIU MPA faculty strongly believes our purpose is to not only equip our students with the managerial and administrative skill necessary to achieve their career goals, but also to help them become strategic leaders who add value to their organization and society. We can do this by anchoring our curriculum firmly on the foundation of constitutional principles while embracing democratic values. We believe this approach allows the program to equip MPA students with the knowledge and skills necessary to uphold the public interest while complimenting the University's mission to foster global citizens who are lifelong learners.
Please take some time to review our program. If you have questions do not hesitate to contact us.
