Upper Iowa University's Teacher Education Program is committed to preparing teachers who are well informed, reflective, professional, competent, and sensitive to the diverse needs of their pupils. You are provided with current, practical, applied knowledge and a variety of classroom experiences. The program is dedicated to the development of teachers with personal education philosophies and systems of beliefs that encourage a lifelong commitment to inquiry and excellence.
As an Art Education major, you will not only gain a solid foundation in studio classes, including ceramics, printmaking, painting, drawing, sculpture, and graphic design, you will acquire a global perspective in the visual arts through art history courses. The faculty are practicing professional artists that are engaged not only in teaching the visual arts but who pursue an active role in the visual arts community as well. The art department is located in Edgar Hall, with state-of-the-art facilities to create and learn in the field of fine arts and an art gallery for exhibition of works of students and guest artists.
