Student Emergency Funding Grant

Upper Iowa University received a grant from Great Lakes Higher Education Corporation & Affiliates to assist residential Campus students with emergency funding. Eligible students may receive a one-time grant for up to $1000 to help cover emergency expenses that arise.


  1. Must be a Fayette Campus student
  2. Must have financial need (Identified as EFC of $7000 or less on FAFSA)
  3. Must have a qualifying emergency expense
  4. Must be enrolled as a part-time or full-time undergraduate student

Due to the grant guidelines, this opportunity is currently limited to Fayette students. We hope to be able to offer a similar grant opportunity for all UIU students in the future.

What is an eligible emergency expense?

Each student’s situation is different. The goal of this grant is to provide financial intervention for low-income students who experience a financial emergency that if not remedied may impact their ability to continue their education.

Eligible emergency expenses may include: medical, dental, medical, dental, transportation, personal automobile expense, child care, housing/rent, utilities, and food.

Ineligible expenses include non-emergent expenses such as: tuition, fees, books, legal expenses/fines/bail, tobacco, and alcohol.

How do I apply?

Eligible students who wish to apply for the Student Emergency Funding Grant should schedule a meeting with one of the grant committee members to ensure documentation is completed correctly. The application  may be started in the online portal prior to this meeting.
