Peacock Nation to unite for future students through inaugural Giving Day
FAYETTE, Iowa (April 17, 2017) – Upper Iowa University (UIU) will kick off a brand new event this spring, Giving Day, a chance for alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends of the University to make a positive impact in the lives of future UIU students. Giving Day begins at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 27, and continues through 9 p.m. Friday, April 28.
The inaugural Giving Day is a fun way to engage and challenge Peacock nation to “Step Up” – the theme of the 36-hour event – to support future UIU students and programming via gifts from at least 160 donors in honor of UIU’s 160th anniversary. The University will highlight more than 15 unique giving challenges that will be unveiled via uiu.edu/givingday as we near the big day, such as having participation from all 50 states. As these challenges are completed, they will often unlock major matching gifts. Challenges are based on participation rather than the size of the gift; thus, a small gift has just as much impact as a large gift in beating the challenge and unlocking a large matching gift.
“The Giving Day theme of Step Up acknowledges the importance of supporting our future UIU students so they may share in the same academic opportunity and career outcomes that current and past UIU students have experienced,” said Director of Annual Giving Naomi Aziz. “Whether you are able to give $5 or $5,000, the collective power of Peacock Nation can provide meaningful impact to the future of UIU through Giving Day.”
Event organizers suggest there are several ways people can show their support for UIU through Giving Day: spread the word about UIU Giving Day before the event by using the hashtag #StepUpUIU, make a gift of your choice during the event, follow the UIU Alumni & Friends Facebook page UIU on social media during the event to receive regular updates on the progress of individual challenges, and share your favorite UIU photos via social media during Giving Day.
“The exciting challenges and offers of matching donations will make for great entertainment throughout the event,” said Aziz. “We aim to make it very easy for people to follow along on that progress and hope all of Peacock Nation will consider participating in this exciting and beneficial event.”
Those individuals who have questions about Giving Day or would like to find out how they can be more engaged in the fun challenges are invited to contact Naomi Aziz at 563-425-5966.
