In appreciation of the need to recognize excellence in teaching, the Faculty Development and Welfare Committee is seeking nominations from faculty, staff and students of Upper Iowa University on behalf of the Roger and Alice Mangan family. The monetary award of $1000 each will be given to two faculty, preferably one Junior and one Senior faculty. The award focuses exclusively on teaching, thus highlighting faculty’s classroom experiences through the eyes of students.

Electronic nominations are now open and will be accepted through the second Friday in March at 5:00 p.m. CT. All nominations must be submitted via email to [email protected]. Please write “Mangan Award” in the subject line of your email.

Nomination Qualifications

Any faculty, staff or student (current or former) may nominate a deserving faculty member. Previous recipients may not be considered for a period of five years. Candidates must be current full-time tenured or tenure track faculty. (Self-nominations will not be accepted). Nominations must include a minimum of one-page stating the reason why the faculty is nominated, including qualifications and examples of teaching excellence. This award focuses on teaching, not on credentials or content knowledge.

Award Process

The Faculty Development and Welfare Committee will notify nominees no later than the second Friday in March of their candidacy via email. Nominees will be required to provide an updated curriculum vitae and statement of teaching philosophy to the Committee by the fourth Friday in March at 5:00 p.m. CT. Nominees are encouraged to submit letters of support from a variety of sources which may include students, colleagues, or supervisors. The requested information shall be electronically submitted to [email protected].

Timeline

The Faculty Development and Welfare Committee will review the nominations and the additional information. Strong consideration will be given to nominees that demonstrate the criteria stated within the rubric. (See rubric for additional information). The Committee will provide recommendations to the VPASA for final determination, no later than the first Friday in April at 5:00 p.m. CT.

The VPASA will review the nominations and recommendations of the Faculty Development and Welfare Committee and the awards will be announced in the spring
