Peacock Promise

The Peacock Promise is an Upper Iowa University financial assistance program that will make college free for many Iowa students. The Peacock Promise eliminates tuition for any student eligible for the Iowa Tuition Grant attending UIU’s Fayette Campus.

Merit Scholarships

We offer renewable merit scholarships to incoming freshman at the Fayette campus.

Students must maintain the academic standards specified. The freshman scholarships are renewable for 5 years, while the transfer scholarships are renewable for 3. Although some scholarships and grants are not based upon financial need, the amount of an award would be reduced only to comply with state or federal requirements.

In addition, the University awards more than $100,000 each year to its current students who are selected by the UIU Honors and Awards Committee.

Trustee Scholarship  $5,500  per academic year for full-time enrollment 
Presidential Scholarship  $3,500 per academic year for full-time enrollment

Transfer Students

Planning on transferring to Upper Iowa’s Fayette campus? UIU provides academic scholarships for transfer students, as well as our generous Transfer Scholarship of up to $5,500 /year for students transferring at least 48 credit hours with a cummulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.

Academic Scholarships for Transfer Students

Alexander Scholarship (Renewable)  $3,500  for students with a minimum cumulative transfer GPA of 3.5 or above 
Mott Scholarship (Renewable)  $2,000  for students with a minimum cumulative transfer GPA of 3.0 or above 
Albright Scholarship (Renewable)  $1,000  for students with a minimum cumulative transfer GPA 2.0 – 2.99 
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship   $1,000  scholarships for students with a minimum 3.5 cumulative transfer GPA and 30 completed credit hours (at the time of application). Students must be members of Phi Theta Kappa, verified by providing a copy of PTK membership to the UIU Admissions Office.

 

Upper Iowa University accepts up to 78 semester hours of credit from a two-year institution and 90 credit hours from a four-year institution.

General Renewable Scholarships

  • Legacy Scholarships are available to sons and/or daughters of previous graduates of Upper Iowa University. Students must be enrolled full-time students during the fall and/or spring semester to qualify for this grant. This grant will apply to all children, including adopted or legal stepchildren and will not exclude those children who are independent of the family due to marriage or age.  Award is up to $4,000 ($500 per semester – 8 semesters total).
  • Upper Iowa University Grants are made available to students who show strong academic promise, are capable of doing satisfactory college-level work, and have demonstrated financial need. The amount of remaining financial need will determine the amount of the award. To be eligible, students must gain admission to the University as regular, full-time students and apply for financial assistance.

New students transferring to Upper Iowa from a UIU partner school may qualify for the Transfer Connection Scholarship.

Current students may be eligible for scholarships through the UIU Honors and Awards process. Important details and deadlines are shared with all students during the year.

Private scholarships may be available through your membership in professional organizations, local or regional civic organizations, or for specific majors.  Contact organizations to which you belong for information.  

Opportunities for International Students

NEW: UIU is offering eligible transfer students a scholarship of $5,500 for UIU’s Fayette Campus! To qualify, students are required to:  

  • Currently attend another institution anywhere in the world 
  • Have completed at least 48 transferable credits 
  • Be fully admitted to UIU 
  • Enroll full-time (12-18 credits per semester) at UIU’s Fayette Campus 

Students who do not meet this eligibility criteria are still eligible to receive our scholarships listed below.   

Students who receive an athletic scholarship are not eligible for this scholarship.  

Upper Iowa University believes in providing support to students who are serious about continuing their higher education. UIU offers several scholarships of increasing amounts to incoming students based on their grade point average (GPA). Prospective students are automatically considered for scholarships at the time of their admission. No separate application is required. Accepted students will be notified of any scholarship award during their admission process.

Additional funding to alleviate expenses may be available to Upper Iowa University international students. Please, remember that a scholarship does not need to be paid back, whereas, student loans do. Often times, student loans come with high interest rates that will be added to your payments in the future. It is important to remember they are competitive in nature and not guaranteed. Endowed Scholarships

In addition, the University awards more than $400,000 each year to current students who are selected by the UIU Honors and Awards Committee. These awards include:   

Irene Humphrey Anderson Scholarship in English 

Established by Irene Humphry Anderson, an alumna, class of 1934, this scholarship is awarded to a deserving student majoring in English.  

Andres Business c 

Established through a lead gift by Betty R. Andres, class of 1946, and matching funds from business alumni, this scholarship honors the late William A. Andres, class of 1948, and the Andres family’s contributions to Upper Iowa University. William A. Andres was CEO of the Dayton/Hudson Corporation, now the Target Corporation. This scholarship is awarded to a sophomore business student for use in the junior year. The scholarship is renewable for the student’s senior year if the criteria are still met.  

Andres Education Scholarship 

Established through a lead gift by Betty R. Andres, class of 1946, and matching funds from education alumni, this scholarship honors the contributions Betty and the late William A. Andres, class of 1948, have made to Upper Iowa University. This scholarship is awarded to a sophomore education student for use in the junior year. The scholarship is renewable for the student’s senior year if the criteria are still met.  

Hoyt R. & Winifred Appleman Young Scholarship 

This scholarship fund was established from the estate of Winifred A. Young, to be used for tuition grants to deserving students of the University.  

Babcock Scholarship 

The estate of Mary E. Babcock provided for scholarships to honor the memory of Quintus C. Babcock, who settled in Fayette in 1857 and became one of Upper Iowa’s very first students.  

Dr. G. C. Baker Memorial Scholarship in Science 

To honor the memory of Dr. G. C. Baker, eminent scientist, and to encourage outstanding work in science, the late Mrs. Thelma Tidgwell Baker Rick established this annual award as a tuition scholarship to a sophomore student who has shown exceptional ability in science.  

William F. Baker Science Memorial Award 

The William F. Baker Science Memorial Award was established in 1953 by the William F. Baker family. The memorial provides for one or two prizes each year for the best herbarium collection by a student.  

Baldwin Memorial Award in Art 

This award was established by art students at Upper Iowa University in memory of Thomas E. Baldwin, class of 1963. An inscribed plaque is awarded annually to the outstanding senior in art. 

Beecher Beal and Bertha Beal Roberts/Thomas R. Roberts Student Scholarship 

Dr. Mary Margaret Roberts, Col. Lucile M. Roberts and Mrs. Ruth E. Roberts Peacock established the Beecher Beal and Bertha Beal Roberts/Thomas R. Roberts Student Scholarship in memory of their uncle, Beecher B. Beal, class of 1907, and their parents, Bertha (Beal) Roberts, class of 1907, and Thomas R. Roberts, class of 1905. This is an annual award for one or more students pursuing a career in education, ministry, social work, medicine or nursing. Students must also have earned a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have a record of extracurricular involvement, with preference given to students residing in Butler or Floyd County, Iowa. The award is renewable if the recipient continues to meet the criteria.  

Belknap Baker Family Scholarship 

Established by Genevieve Belknap Baker, class of 1936, in honor of her husband, Carleton Baker, class of 1934, and the Belknap and Baker families. Fifteen members of the Belknap and Baker families graduated from Upper Iowa University from 1865 to 1991 over 125 years. Genevieve attended Upper Iowa University on a full scholarship offered by Mrs. John Dickman, widow of John Dickman, president of Upper Iowa University.  

Charles G. Bell Scholarship in Art 

This award was established by Charles Bell, class of 1967, to be awarded annually to a deserving student majoring in art.  

Joe and Janet (Olson) Brady Scholarship 

This scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving student with a grade point average of 2.75 or higher. Upper Iowa University was an important element in Joe and Janet’s life. Joe, class of 1941, would like to give thanks and pay tribute to the following people who played a key role in his education at UIU: Doc Dorman, Mrs. J. W. Dickman, Mrs. Coffman, Professor Raymond Deming, Professor Willis Harry Walker.  

Ivadell Brause Memorial Endowed Scholarship 

This scholarship was established in memory of Ivadell Brause, class of 1921 and former professor of English at Upper Iowa University. The awards are given annually to students majoring in education, with preference given to students from Fayette County.   

Jacob D. Burling Memorial Scholarship

Established in memory of Jacob Burling by his family and friends, this scholarship is awarded to a student who has an agriculture background and interest, with preference given to a student pursuing an agriculture-related field of study with a minimum GPA of 2.7. 

Bruce I. Campbell Endowed Scholarship 

This scholarship is available to a UIU student with a preference for graduates of the Rudd, Rockford, Marble Rock and Nora Springs Rock Falls school districts who are Floyd County residents and who demonstrate a financial need. Preference will also be given to students interested in pursuing a teaching and/or coaching career in smaller schools in Iowa or the Midwest and who are first generation college students or whose parents have minimal college backgrounds.  

Foster Cass Foundation Student Scholarship 

Foster Cass ’41 established this scholarship in honor of his parents, Rev. Frank W. Cass and Carrie Jackley Cass, and family members who are UIU alumni: Edward J. Cass ’38, Marjorie Swales Cass ’39 and Betty Cass Hersey ’43. The Cass family was the University’s neighbor for many years, and there is a plaque commemorating the location on Union Street. Mr. Cass had a distinguished career in public education in Iowa and California. The scholarship is primarily intended for high school graduates from North Fayette, Elkader or Maquoketa Valley high schools or the greater northeast Iowa area.  

Caudle-Holmes Scholarship 

This scholarship was established by Verda (Caudle) Holmes, class of 1934, for her husband, Leland (Les) Holmes, class of 1933, his parents, Charles and Anna Holmes, and her parents, Jesse and Rose Caudle.  

Lew Churbuck Scholarship 

This award is made to a deserving student who chooses to pursue a career in the biological sciences after being inspired through instruction by Upper Iowa biology faculty.  

Clark / Bowen Endowed Scholarship 

This scholarship, created in honor of Dr. Charles B. Clark and Roger Bowen, is awarded to a student enrolled in a self-paced, online, or distance learning program chosen by the Honors & Awards Committee.   

The John and Reta Coleman Achievement in Science Award 

The John and Reta Coleman Achievement in Science Award was established by Dr. Richard W. Coleman, former professor of biology, in memory of his parents, John and Reta Coleman. The recipient of this award has been selected for his/her achievement in science determined by the science faculty.  

Susan Angeline Collins Memorial Scholarship 

This award is sponsored in recognition of the spirit and achievements of Susan Angeline Collins, daughter of slaves, missionary in Africa for 33 years and Upper Iowa’s first African-American female student. The scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in some field of liberal arts, based on both scholastic and extracurricular achievement.  

William R. Cook Accounting Scholarship 

This award, funded by an annual gift with matching funds from William R. Cook, class of 1965 and a member of Upper Iowa’s Board of Trustees, is given to an outstanding junior majoring in accounting. Preference is given to students from northeast Iowa.  

CRC Press Freshman Chemistry Achievement Award 

The award goes to the outstanding freshman student in Chemistry as chosen by the School.  

Ron Crooker Facilities Endowed Scholarship 

The Ron Crooker Facilities Endowed Scholarship be established as an endowed fund from the Donor’s gift(s) to be used by Upper Iowa University to support one or more annual scholarships to deserving students in good academic standing who have worked in the UIU Facilities & Management Department and who show interest in pursuing a career in facilities management. Recommendation for recipients will be made by the Facilities Management team.  

Csomay Scholarship 

The Csomay Endowed Scholarship was established in 2009 by Upper Iowa University alumnae Barbara R. Csomay ’46. It is intended to support student scholarly pursuits and high academic standards.  

May (Cliff) Davig Endowed Scholarship 

This endowed scholarship is being created through the generosity of May Davig, a 1995 graduate of Upper Iowa University. May attended Upper Iowa University’s Madison center location, earning a degree in Management. May worked for many years as a staff member in the University of Wisconsin-Madison Medical School. The Donor is establishing an endowed scholarship fund to be awarded to non­traditional/ adult learners at Upper Iowa University. All scholarships awarded will be for one academic year, but are renewable so long as satisfactory academic progress is maintained.

Darwin Dean Endowed Scholarship

Established by Darwin Dean, a 1999 graduate of UIU, he earned his degree in Management Information Systems. He is an ardent supporter of Upper Iowa, with specific devotion and faithfulness to the women’s athletic programs. This scholarship shall be awarded annually to a student-athlete. The recipient must have a 3.0 GPA or higher and should be a rising junior or senior.

John William Dickman Prize 

The John William Dickman Prize, founded by Mrs. Adella Maltbie Dickman in memory of her husband and former president of the University, is awarded annually to the seniors who have made the best four-year records. The choice is made by vote of the faculty on the Rhodes scholarship basis, which includes scholarship, character, leadership and general accomplishments.  

John William Dickman Scholarship 

The John William Dickman Endowed Scholarship is awarded annually to the student who best exemplifies the character, loyalty, dedication and personal values of John William Dickman, class of 1888, who served as a professor, dean, business officer, trustee and president of Upper Iowa University.  

John William Dickman Endowed Scholarship 

Given by Milo Maltbie, class of 1892, in honor of his niece, Lucille, class of 1922, daughter of his sister, Adella Maltbie Dickman, and John W. Dickman, this scholarship is awarded to academically deserving students with a 2.5 grade point average or better.  

Lucille Dickman Scholarship 

Given by Milo Maltbie, class of 1892, in honor of his niece, Lucille, class of 1922, daughter of his sister, Adella Maltbie Dickman, and John W. Dickman, this scholarship is awarded to academically deserving students with a 2.5 grade point average or better.  

The Stuart and Roberta Dunkel Annual Scholarship 

This award is given by Stuart ’64 and Roberta Dunkel to a student with a GPA of 3.2 or higher who is majoring in education and will begin student teaching in the fall or spring semester of the next academic year. Preference is given to students who plan to work in the United States or for a United States entity after graduation. The cash award is to be used by the student for related expenses such as travel or other living expenses. If there are no eligible students in education, a student may be selected first from the business disciplines, and next from the field of math or one of the natural science disciplines, commencing an internship during the next academic year.  

Eischeid Athletic Scholarship 

This award is named in honor of legendary UIU Football Coach and Hall of Famer, Everett “Eb” Eischeid. The scholarship is to be awarded annually to a Football student-athlete who is meeting NCAA progress toward degree requirements.  

Kenneth J. and Sharon L. (Reisch) Erickson Scholarship Fund

Kenneth J. Erickson and Sharon L (Reisch) Erickson created an endowed scholarship fund to be awarded to students majoring in either Accounting or Finance. The scholarship is awarded to a resident of either Fayette, Clayton or Dubuque counties. Students that have successfully completed their first year of study and are maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0 will be eligible.

Excellence in Education Endowed Scholarship 

This award is made to a deserving student who has been admitted to the Teacher Education program, junior or senior status, with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. The intent of this scholarship is to assist a student who possesses the qualities of an effective teacher. This scholarship recipient is chosen by the faculty of the Andres Department of Education.  

Faculty Appreciation Scholarship given by Tesorierio, Foley and Wood 

This award, sponsored by alumni Dr. Richard Tesoriero, Dr. Donald Foley and Dr. Kurt Wood, is made to an outstanding sophomore who is majoring in biology and chemistry, and if no double major is available, then biology or chemistry, favoring prechiropractic. The award is applied to the student’s junior year financial aid package at Upper Iowa University. Prospective award recipients are recommended to the Honors and Awards Committee by the senior faculty member in the biology department and the chemistry department.  

Drs. Eugene E. and Mildred Everts Garbee Award 

This award was created by memorials honoring Dr. Eugene E. Garbee, Upper Iowa University’s fifteenth president, and his wife, Dr. Mildred Everts Garbee. Dr. Eugene Garbee was president of Upper Iowa from 1952 to 1970.  

Blanche Cole Gloss Memorial Scholarship 

Because of her family’s long association with Upper Iowa University, this scholarship was established in memory of Blanche Cole Gloss, to be given to a deserving student.  

Thomas Parker Goebel and Helen Goebel Scholarship 

This scholarship is for students interested in pursuing their studies in science, given by Thomas Parker Goebel and the late Helen Goebel.  

Dr. Austin J. Goldsmith Book Scholarship 

This scholarship is awarded to a deserving student majoring in biology, chemistry or mathematics with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, who is intending to pursue graduate studies toward an M.D., M.S. or Ph.D degree in the future. The scholarship is to be used toward the purchase of books for classes during the next academic year. The scholarship recipient will be chosen by the faculty of the School of Science and Mathematics.  

William F. and LaVonne I. Gutches Scholarship 

This scholarship was endowed through the trust of La Vonne I. Gutches in memory of her husband, William F. Gutches, class of 1929 and an outstanding athlete at UIU, who went on to be a successful coach and athletic director. The award is to be given to a deserving student majoring in physical education and can be renewed if the recipient meets the established criteria.  

Linda Haines Scholarship 

This scholarship was established in memory of Linda Haines, former Upper Iowa University associate vice president for Academic Extension, to support annual scholarships to deserving students enrolled in the Academic Extension program at Upper Iowa University.  

Dr. Louise P. Herring Scholarship 

This scholarship, provided by Dr. Louise Herring, English professor at Upper Iowa University from 1966-1974, is awarded annually to a student completing the sophomore year, to be selected by the English faculty on the basis of exemplary scholarship and sound character. Normally the scholarship is applied in equal portions to the student’s tuition during the junior and senior years.  

Herz Scholarship 

Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Herz of Lead, South Dakota, established this scholarship. It is awarded annually by vote of the faculty to the sophomore student who has made the best record for the preceding two years, the selection being made on the basis of scholarship. The award is applied to the winner’s tuition during the junior year at Upper Iowa, one-half of the amount each semester.  

Iowa Society of CPAs Outstanding Accounting Major Awards 

Each year the Iowa Society of CPAs recognizes universities in Iowa and their outstanding accounting students. These awards are based on senior students with GPAs at or near 4.0.  

Mrs. Ina Johnson Memorial Scholarship 

This scholarship in memory of Mrs. Ina Johnson was created by her son, Ted, a former trustee of Upper Iowa University, and his family. The recipient of this annual award is a deserving student in the biology field, selected by the awards committee and the head of the biology department.  

Ralph Kauten Endowed Scholarship 

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman from the West Central (Maynard, Iowa), North Fayette (West Union, Iowa) or Valley (Elgin, Iowa) school districts. The scholarship is renewable if the student continues to maintain the academic criteria.  

Margaret Share Kerfoot Scholarship 

Established in memory of Margaret Share Kerfoot by her son, Harold L. Kerfoot, class of 1924, this scholarship is to be awarded to a student of outstanding character and who has an academic record for the freshman year among the top five percent.  

The Brooke Kerns Endowed Scholarship 

To honor the memory of Brooke Kerns, assistant professor of athletic training, the Kerns family established an endowed scholarship because Brooke thought so much of her students. This scholarship is awarded to a deserving student majoring in exercise science. The scholarship will be awarded to a student completing their sophomore or junior year to be used for their junior/senior year at Upper Iowa University. The student must have a grade point average of 3.25 or above with preference given to students pursuing a career as an athletic trainer or related healthcare professional.

Mary Kimball Endowed Scholarship 

This scholarship is awarded to a rising junior with a major in accounting and a GPA of 3.5 or above. The scholarship would be renewable for the same student in their senior year if they maintain the 3.5 GPA scholarship. If there are no eligible accounting majors, a business administration major can be considered.  

Paul “Spike” & Merriam Kelly Scholarship 

Established by friends of Spike and Merriam Kelly, both of the class of 1924, this award is given annually to a worthy student.  

Carlton W. Knight and Maxine B. Knight Endowed Scholarship 

This scholarship pays tribute to Carlton W. Knight and Maxine B. Knight, proprietors of the former Knight’s Hardware, located on Fayette’s main street from 1900-1965. The annual award is intended for an incoming student. In establishing the scholarship, son Dr. Kip, class of 1962, and Eileen Knight stipulated the award shall provide financial assistance to a deserving individual from within the customer base or ‘trade area’ served by the family-owned and operated Knight’s Hardware with preference given to students who have participated in extracurricular activities, worked in the family business or family farm to ‘support or enhance their family standard of living’ and who have demonstrated a commitment to community service.  

Joyce A. Lang Teacher Education Scholarship 

Established in tribute to Joyce (Ries) Lang ’66 to recognize her exceptional 44-year career as public school educator, the scholarship will be awarded to a student attending the University’s Fayette Campus and majoring in Teacher Education (pre-K through Grade 6). The scholarship, to be named the Joyce A. Lang Teacher Education Scholarship, will be awarded to an Iowa resident, with preference given to a student from a rural part of the State. The scholarship recipient should be an incoming freshman with financial need and a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or better. Eligible students will also submit a letter describing why he/ she wants to pursue a career in teaching. The scholarship is renewable through the recipient’s senior year (maximum of four years) provided they maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate annually in some tangible way a commitment to the teaching profession. Only one eligible student will receive the scholarship annually. Should the scholarship not be renewed to a recipient for any reason, a new incoming freshman meeting the scholarship criteria will be selected. Upon awarding of the scholarship, recipients will receive a biographical sketch of Joyce

Scott and Bobbi Lebin Annual Scholarship 

This Scholarship be established as an annual award to be used by Upper Iowa University to support one annual scholarship to a deserving student majoring in education. The award shall be renewable to any recipient, so long as the recipient continues to qualify under the specified criteria.  

Irma K. Ledgerwood Endowed Scholarship 

This award, given in memory of Irma Ledgerwood, class of 1922, is made to a rising junior who has completed at least half of the course work leading to a degree in communications.  

Ruth Manuta Memorial Scholarship 

This scholarship is given in memory of Ruth Manuta, class of 1987, by her husband, David Manuta, a former professor of chemistry, in honor of Ruth’s great love and appreciation of learning. It is awarded to deserving students of nontraditional college age who are natives of northeast Iowa.  

McCoy Endowed Scholarship in Honor of Martha Weatherspoon  

This scholarship is awarded to a deserving student at the Fayette Campus.  Supported by LaVerne McCoy and family. 

LaVerne McCoy Scholarship 

This scholarship was established in 2013 and is awarded to a non-traditional student from Wisconsin.

McCready Scholarship 

This scholarship was established in 2000 to honor Mike McCready, former head wrestling coach and athletic director at Upper Iowa University. This scholarship is awarded annually to a physical education major with a grade point average of 2.5 or above.  

Dr. Gary McVicker Scholarship 

This scholarship for deserving students pursuing a major in natural sciences is named in honor of Dr. Gary McVicker, class of ’63. Preference is given to graduates of Boone High School (Iowa), and the scholarship is renewable as long as the recipient continues to qualify. Dr. McVicker grew up in Boone, where he excelled at football and baseball and held an after-school job. With the encouragement of a supportive teacher he attended Upper Iowa University on scholarship. His subsequent graduate studies led to a Ph.D. in Chemistry and a distinguished 38-year career in research. He never forgot the generous support which showed him the path to his accomplishments, and his professional life was marked by an enduring dedication to mentoring aspiring young scientists

Don & Pauline McGuire Endowed Scholarship 

This scholarship is awarded to a first-time non-traditional student during their first year of attendance at UIU. One-half of the scholarship will be awarded for their first semester with the remainder being awarded in the second semester, contingent upon the student earning a minimum of 6 credits during the fall semester with a  GPA of at least 2.5. Preference will be given to students who have experienced hardships (i.e. financial, familial, health) which caused them not to be able to enter college previously. Students entering UIU in their first year will be notified of this opportunity and interested students will submit an essay and provide two letters of recommendation. Essays will be reviewed and recipients will be selected by a subcommittee of the Honors and Awards Committee.

Joe Menges Scholarship 

To recognize and encourage outstanding scholarship in business administration, the late Joe Menges, a former trustee, provided for this award as a tuition scholarship, given annually to a student who has shown exceptional promise in the field of business.  

Upper Iowa University Grace Meyer Scholarship 

This scholarship to honor Grace Meyer, Professor of English from 1943-1974, is awarded annually at the end of the sophomore or junior year to students in the humanities based upon character, need and scholarship.  

Military Family Fund Award 

The Military Family Fund award was established in 2013. This award is made to either a veteran or a spouse or dependent of a veteran with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.  

Martha M. Moeller Scholarship 

Funded by the Henry George Mackintosh Foundation, in honor of Martha M. Moeller, who attended UIU as a student in the 1890s. The scholarship is awarded to a student in good standing pursuing a degree in the Teacher Education Program with a preference given to a junior, senior or graduate level status.  

Helen J. Monserud Scholarship in Sociology 

The Helen J. Monserud Scholarship in Sociology was established for a deserving student majoring in sociology. Dr. Monserud taught at Upper Iowa University from 1948-1971.  

Margaret (Hall) Moore Endowed Scholarship 

Established in memory of Margaret (Hall) Moore, class of 1940, this scholarship is awarded to a deserving single parent who continues to have responsibility for his or her children while seeking to complete a college degree.

Charles Morgan Scholarship 

Established after the death of Charles Morgan, class of 1942 and former member of the Upper Iowa University Board of Trustees, this scholarship is awarded annually.  

Warren W. Morgan Scholarship for Business Majors 

This scholarship was established by Mr. Warren W. Morgan, alumnus and area businessman through a bequest in his will. The scholarship is awarded annually to students majoring in business with a preference for students residing in Fayette County or northeast Iowa. The recipient must be a junior who has completed at least half of the required program of studies. The scholarship is renewable for the student’s senior year if the criteria are still met.  

Dennis and Marlene Murdock Adult Learner Scholarship 

 This scholarship shall be awarded to adult learners at a non-Fayette campus location. Recipients must have completed no fewer than 30 credits and be in good academic standing with the University. Recipients will be nominated by a staff or faculty member in recognition of their ability to overcome obstacles in pursuit of an education. (Also selected by a small committee of staff and faculty who primarily serve adult learners.)  

Dennis and Marlene Murdock Leadership Scholarship 

 This scholarship shall be awarded to a rising junior, senior or student pursuing an advanced degree at UIU’s Fayette campus and who is in good academic standing with the University. Recipients will be nominated by a staff or faculty member in recognition of leadership attributes demonstrated by service to UIU clubs and organizations, Student Government Association, residence life, tutoring, and/or other extracurricular campus involvement.  

Northeast Iowa Charitable Foundation Scholarship 

Established in 1997, this endowed scholarship is awarded annually to deserving students from the northeast Iowa area, with preference given to students from Oelwein.  

Mrs. Richard Otley Improvement Award 

This scholarship is awarded to a man and woman in the sophomore class who have made the greatest progress or improvement during the year. The award is based on improvement in scholastic performance.  

Edward L. Paine and Gertrude Pease Paine Scholarship 

Established in memory of Edward L. Paine, class of 1932 and a career math teacher, and Gertrude Pease Paine, class of 1935, this scholarship is awarded to a student in the math/science field.  

Dr. J. D. Parker and Nellie K. Parker Scholarship 

This scholarship was established by Mrs. Eleanor Parker Fox, class of 1926, and Dr. Robert L. Fox, class of 1928, in memory and in honor of Mrs. Fox’s parents. The Parker and Fox families have a long association with Upper Iowa University, going back to the early years of the University’s history. The scholarship is given annually to a third-year student who has exceptionally high grades in the biological sciences and is recommended by the science faculty.  

Pande Scholarship 

This scholarship was established by Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence A. Pande, Jr., president of Professional Food-Service Management, Inc. (PFM). Upper Iowa University was the first food service account for PFM. The scholarship is awarded each year to deserving students.  

Phi Beta Delta Alumni 

This scholarship is awarded to a student member of the Phi Beta Delta sorority who is completing her junior year, to be used for her senior year at Upper Iowa University.  

Paul and Margaret Pickett Scholarship 

The Paul and Margaret Pickett Scholarship is awarded to a recipient who is currently enrolled in, or has successfully completed, courses in calculus or advanced mathematics. Dr. Paul Pickett was professor of education from 1953 to 1975 and appreciated the importance of mathematics in one’s overall learning.  

Lloyd Pleggenkuhle Memorial Scholarship 

Established to honor the memory of Lloyd Pleggenkuhle, class of 1936 and former Trustee, this scholarship is awarded to a worthy student from the northeast Iowa area.  

William Prochaska Endowed Scholarship 

The William (Bill) Prochaska Endowed Scholarship is awarded annually to a student entering his/her junior year majoring in Physical Education and Coaching. The student must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The scholarship will be used toward the students’ junior year expenses at UIU. Mr. Prochaska (Coach Pro) and his family have given this scholarship in honor of his 50 year affiliation with UIU as an alum, coach, athletic director and faculty member. 

Robert H. Rewoldt Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of Robert Rewoldt who attended UIU from 1948-1951, served in the U.S. Navy for four years, and enjoyed a successful career in the automobile and real estate businesses. 

Paul and Sharroll Richards Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by J. Paul and Sharroll Richards to be given to one or more deserving students pursuing teacher licensure at the elementary or secondary level. Eligible recipients must be a native of Iowa, Minnesota or Wisconsin and must be a student-athlete participating in a sport that hosts events at the Fayette campus. Preference will be given to a student with interest in becoming a certified coach.   

John Rippe Scholarship 

This scholarship was established in 2000 in memory of Dr. John Rippe, class of 1928 and longtime member of the Board of Trustees. This scholarship is given annually to a student from Minnesota with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, who is well-rounded and actively involved in community and school activities. If there are no eligible students from Minnesota, a student from Iowa may be chosen.  

Dr. Larry Seals Scholarship 

This scholarship is given by Dr. Larry Seals ’86 and recognizes a scholar athlete of sophomore status with a minimum GPA of 3.0 who is majoring in communications, with preference given to those with a journalism emphasis. If there are no eligible student athletes who meet the criteria, the award may be made to any student of sophomore status meeting the criteria.  

Michael David Selgelid Memorial Scholarship 

In memory of their son, Michael David, Dr. and Mrs. O. C. Selgelid established this scholarship with funds raised through the efforts of their friends and Doc Dorman’s Old Time Peacocks. Dr. Selgelid, class of 1931 and an organizer of Doc Dorman’s Old Time Peacocks, was also a former Upper Iowa University Trustee.  

Sodexo Campus Services Scholarship 

This scholarship was established by the University’s former dining service provider to recognize deserving students for academic standards, and is also based on financial need.  

Stevens Family Endowed Scholarship 

This scholarship is given to honor the memory of Julie Ann Stevens whose infectious laugh and gentle smile reminded all who knew her that it is not about a person’s disability that matters but the kindness of the heart. Therefore, this scholarship shall be given to a junior with a GPA of 3.5 or higher and majoring in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Special Education. 

Stivers Leadership Scholarship 

Established by Louise Stivers Scott in memory of her father, Bertram Robert Stivers, and her mother, Mrs. B. Robert Stivers, for the influence they have had on her life and work with students at Upper Iowa University. To be given annually to a rising sophomore, junior or senior with a minimum grade point average of 2.25. Faculty and staff will nominate students based on demonstrated qualities of honesty, integrity and leadership. The Honors and Awards Committee will select the recipient from the nominees.  

Beulah Combs Thompson Scholarship 

To honor outstanding students in the arts or humanities, this scholarship was established in memory of Beulah Combs Thompson, class of 1913. It is awarded annually as partial tuition.  

Diane Tvrdik Scholarship 

This scholarship was established by the family of Diane Tvrdik, adjunct faculty member at the Des Moines Center and through the Independent Study program. The Diane Tvrdik Scholarship is awarded each year to a deserving student enrolled in at least two courses at the Des Moines Center or in the Independent Study program who has a minimum 3.25 grade point average, is junior status or above, is a single parent with dependent children and is majoring in either human resources management or teacher education.  

UPS Scholarship 

Awarded through the Iowa College Foundation (ICF) to Iowa students from its member institutions, this scholarship is supported through a special educational endowment funded by the UPS Foundation and administered by the Foundation for Independent Higher Education. These scholarships are part of the total commitment from UPS to ensure that tomorrow’s leaders get every possible opportunity to succeed.  

Pam Whitmore Scholarship for Excellence in Student Teaching 

Pam Whitmore, Class of 1965, taught for five years in Wisconsin Public Schools, 30 years with the Department of Defense Overseas Schools, and four years with Upper Iowa University as an assistant professor in the department of education. Pam supervised student teachers while at Upper Iowa and became a strong supporter of student teachers. Because of her strong support and love for her students, she and her husband, Fred Koch, are giving a cash award to a student with a GPA of 3.75 or higher who will be student teaching beginning in the fall or spring semester of the next academic year. The scholarship will be given to a student majoring in education.  

William G. Wilcox Memorial Scholarship 

This award is given by former Registrar Lois Wilcox to honor the memory of her husband, who was college chaplain and professor of religion, philosophy and history at Upper Iowa University. The award is given to a freshman with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. 

Zecha-McCauley Scholarship 

This scholarship was established by Gerald McCauley, class of 1961 and a former member of the Board of Trustees, and Dr. Allen Zecha, an entrepreneur and friend of the University, to honor a second-year business student with an interest in international business. The student who receives this scholarship must have a 3.5 or higher grade point average, good leadership qualities and good character.

Iowa National Guard Educational Assistance Program 

The Iowa National Guard Educational Assistance Program (NGEAP) provides funds for eligible members of the Iowa National Guard to help with the cost of attending Iowa colleges and universities.   

Legacy Scholarship 

This scholarship is available to dependents of previous graduates of Upper Iowa University.  Students must be enrolled full-time to qualify.  This grant will apply to children including adopted or legal step-children and will not exclude those children who are independent of the family due to marriage or age.  

Athletic Scholarships 

This scholarship is made available to students who show promise in athletics.  The amount of the scholarship is determined by the coach of the specific program.   

Pritzker Access Scholarship 

This scholarship is awarded to students who are undocumented citizens of the United States.  There is a third party organization that pays a portion of the scholarship on behalf of the student and Upper Iowa University also contributes towards it.   

UIU Dollars for Scholars Match 

Students who receive private Dollars for Scholars scholarships from their High School may qualify for the Upper Iowa University Dollars for Scholars Match.  UIU will match up to $250.  Proof of eligibility is required.  

Choir Scholarships 

This scholarship is available for students who are in the UIU Choir.  Recipients are selected by the Choir Director as is the amount of the scholarship.  

Honors and Awards Scholarships 

These scholarships are awarded to current and enrolled students based on certain donor criteria.  The Honors and Awards Committee selects the recipients for each scholarship annually. 

Military Family Grant

This grant is available for students who are spouses or dependents up to 26 of an active duty military member.  Recipients are eligible for up to $1,000 per year awarded to full-time Fayette students who provide proof of eligibility; exclusions may apply.
