Dr. Freking earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology with teaching certification in middle/high school social studies and her master’s degree in student development from the University of Iowa. She earned a master’s degree in reading and a specialist’s degree in counselor education from Western Illinois University and Eastern Illinois University, respectively. Teresa completed her doctoral work in curriculum and instruction at Illinois State University. She began her career as a high school social science teacher and has held teaching positions in reading and teacher education at Eastern Illinois University, Black Hawk College and Western Illinois University. She also served as the Director of the Teaching and Learning Center and Online Learning at Black Hawk College and most recently went back into the public schools to work in counseling/student services with high school students. Teresa is excited to return to teacher education as a full-time faculty member at Upper Iowa University.
