After graduating with a B.A. (Biology) from Lawrence University (Appleton, WI), Dr. Schmidt earned her Ph.D.(Biomedical Sciences–Cell Biology & Genetics) from the Mayo Clinic Graduate School (Rochester, MN) and trained as a post-doctoral researcher studying Microbiology and Immunology at National Jewish Health and the University of Colorado (Denver, CO). Dr. Schmidt has 16 published articles and reviews ranging from cancer biology to microbiology and infectious disease and enjoys guiding research experiences with students. In 2018, she was recognized for Excellence in Mentoring by IINSPIRE LSAMP (Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation in STEM).
