SUBJECT: President’s Communication to Iowa Students – COVID-19 Travel Outside of Iowa Update

Dear UIU Students,

The purpose of this message is to relay recent communication from Iowa governor Kim Reynolds, and the Iowa Department of Public Health.

Per March 21, 2020 guidance from Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds and the Iowa Department of Public Health, any person residing in Iowa who has traveled on an overnight trip outside of Iowa within the last 14 days should immediately self-isolate. The duration of this self-isolation should be 14 days from the individual’s date of return. For example, if an individual engaged in overnight travel outside of Iowa and returned on March 15, the individual should remain in self-isolation until March 29.

In consideration of this guidance, UIU students residing in Iowa should immediately self-isolate. Self-isolation is complete after 14 days AND the individual meets guidance previously provided regarding COVID-19 related symptoms or exposure. This would include no fever for at least 72 hours and at least 7 days since symptoms first appeared. A reminder that if you are experiencing symptoms such as a fever, dry cough or difficulty breathing you should contact your medical provider.

All students are reminded to continue to practice social distancing and follow hand washing best practices. Thank you for your attention to this guidance. We all have a responsibility to help slow the transmission of COVID-19.
