LGBTQ+ Resource Room
During #GivingTuesday 2022, the UIU community raised over $4k in support of a rennovation project for creating a LGBTQ+ Resource Room to be utilized by members and allies of the LGBTQ+ community to convene safely and privately.
More about the LGBTQ+ Resource Room
The space will be located in Henderson-Wilder Library and the renovation includes door installation, furniture, and room furnishings. While our intitial fundraising goal has been met, additional needs include bookshelves, bean bags, LGBTQ+ literature, and artwork.
Research shows that LGBTQ+ students are 2.5 times more likely to experience depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. According to the Trevor Project’s 2020 National Survey on LGBTQ+ Youth Mental Health, 40% of LGBTQ+ respondents (age 13-24) indicated they have “seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year.”
The Resource Room will provide an inclusive and supportive college environment, which is vital for LGBTQ+ student success.
