Benefits of a Hybrid Nursing Program
After gaining a few years of health care experience, many registered nurses (RNs) find themselves ready to take their career to the next level for a number of reasons, including better job opportunities, the potential to earn a higher salary, etc. But for many of the hardworking men and women who occupy this competitive career field, it can be challenging to find a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program that aligns with your busy work and personal schedule.
For those seeking both the familiarity of traditional, on-campus classes as well as the convenience and flexibility of online courses, the hybrid RN-BSN program offered at Upper Iowa University (UIU) can truly offer the best of both worlds.
What Exactly Does a Hybrid Program Entail?
While in-person courses are strictly held in a classroom and online courses are strictly internet-based, hybrid programs combine the two, creating an experience that’s more convenient than having to always attend class inperson but still far more hands-on and personable than a fully online course.
Students in UIU’s hybrid RN to BSN program meet in person for three-hour courses in weeks 1, 3, 6 and 8, with the rest of the program being conducted 100% online via discussion threads and other means which enable students to communicate with one another and their instructor in a simple, asynchronous fashion.
Hybrid RN to BSN classes start every eight calendar weeks and students have the option to choose between part-time and full-time enrollment, depending on what works best with their home and work schedule.
How to Determine if You’re Ready for Hybrid Learning
In order to succeed in a hybrid learning environment, we believe students must:<ul
- Be self-disciplined and highly motivated
- Have truly effective time management skills
- Feel comfortable reading, writing and communicating with others online
- Be willing to work independently and without immediate feedback from instructors
- Be willing and able to commit to accessing the online course content at least three times each week
- Have a strong, consistently reliable internet connection
- Be willing and able to commit to spending a minimum of 17-20 hours on coursework each week, per 3-credit class
- Enjoy interacting face-to-face with classmates and instructors as well as having the flexibility online learning affords
If all the above statements describe who you are as a student, we’re confident our hybrid nursing program will be a good fit for you.
