Grant Opportunities
Upper Iowa University is committed to making college education as affordable as possible. UIU offers a variety of renewable grants for incoming students.
A state grant available to eligible Iowa residents pursuing a college degree at a private institution. This grant is awarded to students from low and middle income families who show financial need and are degree seeking. The Iowa Tuition grant award amount is based on the amount of credit hours per semester a student is enrolled in. The annual amount is determined by the Iowa Legislature and can be increased or decreased depending on availability of funds.
All Iowa Opportunity Foster Care Grant
A state grant for eligible Iowa students who have aged out of Iowa’s foster care system or State Training School.
The Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Program (GEAR UP) Iowa is a grant for low-income and underrepresented students who are prepared to enter and succeed in college.
Education and Training Voucher
This is federally funded program to provide college students education and training opportunities who are currently or who have been in foster care. Recipients must make satisfactory academic progress to receive awards.
The Future Ready Iowa Grant was designed for Iowa students who are pursuing high need professions and are 25 and over. Eligible students must be enrolled at least part time in a bachelor’s degree program at a qualifying school. Recipients must be continuously enrolled to remain eligible. First time applicants must submit both the FAFSA and the Iowa Financial Aid Application Renewal applicants need only submit the FAFSA. Applications are funded in date received order. Funding eligibility is determined by the Iowa College Student Aid Commission.

Special UIU Grant – Fayette Campus Only
This grant is made available to students who show strong academic promise, are capable of doing satisfactory college-level work, and have financial need, as determined by the FAFSA form. The amount of remaining financial need will determine the amount of the award. To be eligible, students must be admitted to UIU as a regular, full-time student and apply for financial assistance.
Corporate Advantage Partnership Grants
Upper Iowa also has a variety of agreements with corporations that offer their employees tuition grants when taking UIU courses online or attending Upper Iowa at one of our regional education centers. Employees, spouses and their dependents (up to age 26) are eligible for these grants if their employer is a member of the UIU “Corporate Advantage Program.” UIU also waives student application fees for CAP participants.
The tuition grant varies for each CAP employer based on the number of employees enrolled in UIU annually. For more information, talk to your employer’s HR office or your UIU admission counselor.

The Military Family Grant offers a $250 per credit hour tuition rate for undergraduate courses and a $325 per credit hour tuition rate for graduate course to the spouses and dependents of all active duty, reserve, and National Guard service members.

Upper Iowa University offers a grant on tuition to all military personnel (guard, reserve, and retired), as well as their family members who are Department of Defense identification card holders. This grant also applies to veterans who are eligible for VA Educational Benefits. For servicemembers utilizing military tuition assistance benefits, the undergraduate tuition rate will not exceed the authorized credit hour rate.
The tuition grant applies to all civilian centers as well as courses taken through the online and self-paced degree programs. Grants do not apply to students on the Fayette campus.
In addition, all UIU educational centers located on military bases will offer a reduced rate on tuition (cost per credit hour).
