These courses are three-credit, graduate-level online courses. Each course is 8 weeks in duration.  They are the only graduate level courses approved by The Daily CAFE and Educational Design LLC.

Launching Daily 5 and CAFE provides participants with a foundational understanding of both Daily 5 and CAFE. Emphasis will be placed on Daily 5 and CAFE research-based practices in literacy instruction along with materials, methods, and skills used to teach students reading in grades K-8.

We will dive deep into the most important components of the Daily 5 Framework and CAFE Literacy System including:

  • classroom design,
  • brain research,
  • motivation in teaching and learning,
  • developing independence,
  • organizing student data,
  • brief and detailed focused lessons,
  • differentiation in the literacy classroom,
  • moving from assessment to instruction, and
  • monitoring student progress.

Upon completion, practitioners will have the knowledge to successfully implement both Daily 5and CAFE in their own classrooms.

Build independence in your classroom with a framework to structure math time so.

Launching Math Daily 3 provides students with a foundational understanding of Math Daily 3. Emphasis will be placed on Math Daily 3 research-based instructional practices along with materials, methods, and skills used to teach students math in grades K-6.

We will dive deep into the most important components of Math Daily 3 including

  • classroom design,
  • brain research,
  • motivation in teaching and learning,
  • developing student independence,
  • organizing student data,
  • brief and detailed focused lessons, and
  • differentiation in the mathematics classroom.

Upon completion, practitioners will have the knowledge to successfully implement the Math Daily 3 framework in their own classrooms.

The CAFE Literacy System is your conduit to success for differentiating instruction. Participants in CAFE 2.0 will learn a systematic approach for meeting the needs of their students regardless of setting, materials, or differing needs.

We will dive deep into the most important components of CAFE including

  • a protocol for instruction,
  • the five pillars of reading,
  • standards aligned instruction,
  • data driven decision making,
  • learner diversity,
  • brain compatible instruction, and
  • organizing student information.

Upon completion, practitioners will have the knowledge and skills to successfully differentiate literacy instruction to meet student needs and required standards, in any setting.

How do I request to register for these classes?

  • Complete our FREE online application by clicking Sign Up
  • Enter your name and email and submit. You’ll receive an email with a link to create your password.
  • Once logged in, click Start a New Application.
  • Answer the questions on the first page as follows:
    • What level of degree are you interested in? Non-degree Graduate
    • Which type of student? Non-degree Graduate
    • Location: Daily 5/Daily 3
  • Answer the remaining questions, review your application, and submit.

Individuals who successfully submit their application will be contacted with additional information about completing the official registration process. Please be sure to check your spam folders to ensure that you do not miss this information. Please allow 2-3 days for confirmation.

Once you have submitted your application, please email a copy of your current teaching license to [email protected] (if you do not have a copy of your current teaching license you can also provide a copy of your transcript showing your conferred degree in education).

Students are registered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost? How do I pay?

Because of a special agreement with The Daily CAFE, Upper Iowa University is pleased to offer these three courses (EdU533, EDU555, and EDU566) at a reduced tuition rate of $499 for each class. This rate does not apply to any other UIU graduate-level course.

How do I pay? Once your application and license are received, you will be registered for the course. At that time, you will be provided with instructions via email to complete the payment process through the myUIU portal. Please note that no refunds will be issued after registration is complete.
