Serves as Interim Dean, School of Liberal Arts, Upper Iowa University, teaches studio art and art history

B.F.A., B.S. Northern Illinois University, M.F. A., Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.

Collaborating with students and community members on and off campus, working with local artists, and getting involved with community projects, engaging with and advising students and organizations, team teaching with area artists and colleagues, creating community based art projects as well as providing art programs for area youth.

  • Led and provide vision to transform the Division of Liberal Arts to a student centered, mission driven, School of Liberal Arts
  • Supervise 30 faculty in support of 200 majors at the Fayette Campus
  • In collaboration with the Dean, CAO and Vice-President of Academic Extension, provide leadership and coordinate services for 2,200 majors and nearly 400 part-time faculty at domestic and international centers and on-line
  • Collaborate with faculty and support personnel at various levels within the university to provide the balance of general education requirements throughout the university.
  • Oversee faculty hiring, evaluation, development, and mentoring
  • Monthly Dean/Chairs Council, governance and information dissemination with CAO, Dean, Assessment, Registrar, Enrollment
  • Coordinate semester schedules with divisional departments and registrar

Curriculum Development

  • Secured funds through the president's office for external program review by NASAD reviewer Jed Jackson with the outcome of two new tenure lines in the department and a revised Art, Art Education, and Graphic Design Major
  • Collaborated on two quadrennial major assessment reports on all aspects of departmental status including: major goals and outcomes, assessment, benchmarking, strategic planning, and enrollment management initiatives.
  • Participation in assessment processes: development of goals, outcomes and tasks for general education requirements, as well as submission of artifacts for assessment review.
  • I worked with the Education Department to examine and make recommendations regarding changes in state requirements for art endorsements for teacher licensure.
  • Curriculum initiative: development of a cross-disciplinary environmental art and design emphasis working with Geoscience Professor Kata McCarville, in progress

Strategic Initiatives, Development, Recruitment, and select university service

  • As Division Chair, Presented to Tri-State Community College Advisors on program offerings in Liberal Arts
  • Strategic Initiative: Scholarship program for community college Transfer Students.
  • Created a G&O for the Edgar Fine Arts Hall Renovation which included actual costs for equipment, furniture, and gallery needs which resulted in $80, 000 additional funding for equipment needs not covered by the Edgar Fine Arts Hall Renovation project.
  • Initiated the acquisition of an adjoining property for a sculpture studio annex
  • Additional Budgetary matters: maintain the art department budget, sought and received a new line item for gallery funding, preformed a five year analysis of the Art Department budget,
  • Participation in enrollment management processes, including analysis of survey results
  • Organize the North East Iowa High School Art Exhibit at Upper Iowa University every year. We have over 125 high school students from 13 area high schools on campus for this daylong program with break out lectures by graduating seniors and guest artists.
  • 2002-2010: Coordination of Arts Programming including: Gallery Director, Visiting Art Programs
  • Saturday Art Program at Upper Iowa, which features our Art Education student teachers working as leader instructors for student's grade 1-6. I work closely with our students to create innovative and culturally themed curriculum. This program has received funding support from the Iowa Arts Council and the Fayette Community Foundation,
  • Scholarship fundraising through art sales and for the general scholarship fund
  • Annual giving to general Scholarship fund, $1,000
  • Advising, OAR Days, register incoming freshman
  • Participate in new student visit days and weekends
  • Created a tri-fold for Art, Art Education and Graphic design, worked on this with Mar-com.
  • Collaboration to create a Major Template: document for use by admissions. It lists various points about the art program, degree options, degree requirements, career opportunities in our area and testimonials about the successes of recent graduates in our field.
  • Proposal: Art scholarships and the creation of a Portfolio Day for prospective Art Students.

  • Member of the Search Committee for Director of Rainbow Land (conducted two searches, 2003, 2005); duties included: writing an add for the position, evaluating the job description, formulating interview questions, conduction interviews, evaluating and hiring the new director.
  • Member of the Personal Committee: Conducted evaluations of the Director and Staff. Policy sub-committee: Created policy regarding: vacation, cell phone use, employee childcare discounts, salary schedules, updating board handbook.
  • Other Duties: parade float for Watermelon Days, Dad's Belgian Waffle fund raiser, bake sale in conjunction with the Fayette Fire Department Ham Supper, helped with pre-school graduation, helped with open house.
  • Pre-school grant, Iowa State Board of Education: in collaboration with North
    School District, received $138,000, ongoing renewal

Board Member, TAKO (Take a Kid Outdoors) founding member, environmental education, collaborates with many community, county, state and national organizations to provide programming to area youth and families. We host approximately 10 events every year.
