Businesses may apply annually for the Upper Iowa Business Development grant (UIBD) to open a new business, expand, or relocate to Fayette, Iowa. Offered by Upper Iowa University, the UIBD grant is designed to jump-start local businesses while giving a boost to the economy.
Along with the grant, UIU will work with the award winner to find further incentives at the local and state level to ensure the long-term viability of the business. UIU is committed to helping to build a thriving business environment in Fayette.
The winning application will have a clear and convincing business plan that addresses the Fayette market, capitalization and long-term viability. Outlining a compelling vision for what your business will bring to the Fayette community is a plus.
Longtime UIU benefactors Bob and Betty Firth created the UIBD grant with a generous $500,000 endowment. The grant is spurring economic development in Fayette, creating jobs and helping to make Fayette a lively commercial sector. Four new businesses have already been created, generating more than $1.3 million in retail sales revenue and creating 30 jobs.
Applications for the next UIBD grant will be opened in 2013. For additional information, please contact Andrew Wenthe, vice president for external affairs, 563-425-5348 or wenthea@uiu.edu.
