Upper Iowa University’s Recreation Facilities are used for the promotion of health and fitness and challenging recreational opportunities available to all Peacocks. Take advantage of some of the fun and exciting recreation facilities listed below:
Big Rock Country Club
Big Rock Country Club is a beautiful 18-hole golf course nestled in the hills just northeast of campus. The front nine is enjoyable and great for beginners while the back nine is perfect for those looking for a challenge. During the school year greens fees are waived for Upper Iowa students. Additionally, the clubhouse has a bar, food service, meeting room rental, and in-house catering. For more course information, click here.

Bike Trail 
The bike trail is a beautiful path that winds its way through campus and around scenic Fayette. It is perfect for beginning and experienced bike riders as well as rollerbladers and others looking to spend time outdoors.

Cardinal Park
Cardinal Park is managed by the City of Fayette and offers a variety of amenities for UIU students including two softball fields, an outdoor basketball court, a combination soccer/football field, and a picnic area. Numerous intramural activities including intramural softball are held at this facility.

Challenge Course 
Upper Iowa’s newly rebuilt challenge course offers students many opportunities to increase their teamwork and leadership skills while simultaneously teaching them to look at situations from different viewpoints. The course features dramatic views of campus and the Volga River and includes the following low elements: spider’s web, team wall, Mohawk walk, whale watch, and peacock swing. The course also features an outdoor classroom, picnic area, and the peacock rocks.
Location: Uphill of the practice football field off the bike trail
Hours: Dawn until dusk. Groups wishing to use the Challenge Course should make a reservation.

Garbee Hall Game Room
The Garbee Hall Game Room is a place for people to relax, make friends, and have some fun. In the Game Room you will find two pool tables and table tennis.
Location: On the first floor of Garbee Hall
Hours: Open 24 hours per day, seven days per week
9 Hole Disk Golf Course
Location: Near the athletic practice fields. Hole one starts at the far end of the varsity football stadium parking lot.

Outdoor Classroom 
The scenic outdoor classroom within the challenge course is a great place to host a class, meeting, or retreat session. The classroom has a 4’ by 8’ stage and comfortably seats 40.
Location: Part of the Peacock Challenge located uphill of the practice football field off the bike trail
Hours: Dawn until dusk. Groups wishing to use the outdoor classroom should make a reservation.

Outdoor Courts 
The UIU campus and the City of Fayette offer a number of outdoor courts available for student use including lighted tennis courts, a sand volleyball court, and outdoor basketball courts.

Recreation and Fitness Center on
Campus
The Recreation and Fitness Center is available to students to help promote health, wellness, and fitness. Within the rec center you will find a multipurpose room with workout DVDs, exercise balls, and yoga mats; basketball, tennis, badminton, and volleyball courts; two indoor tracks; three batting cages; lockers and locker rooms; 18 weight training machines; 11 cardiovascular machines; and 12 aerobic stepping stations. Student Center Game Room
The Student Center Game room is a place for people to relax, make friends, and have some fun. The game room is equipped with two pool tables; Arcade Legends video game; shuffleboard; foosball; table tennis; bean bags; ten computers; two televisions; and a golf putting green. The game room also includes a lounge area with a great view of Grace Meyer Square.

Swimming Pool
The swimming pool is thought to be the oldest indoor swimming pool west of the Mississippi River, the swimming pool is available for recreational swimming as well as for swimming classes. The pool features three 20-yard lanes and is furnished with a variety of recreational and aqua workout equipment.

Hours: Lap Swim: M-F 6:30 a.m. - 7:30 a.m.
Open Swim: M-F 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Sunday: 2:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Volga River Recreational Area
The Volga River Recreational Area is 5400 square acres of pure outdoor fun. Comprised of trails for hiking, biking, skiing, horseback riding, and snowmobiling; picnicking and camping areas; and places to hunt, swim, fish, boat, and canoe, there is something for everyone.
