General Business (for Teacher Licensure)
"Now in my second year as a high school teacher, I realize that no other school could have provided me with the support and atmosphere I needed to be successful. Attending UIU was and still is the crucial backing for my success. While in school I was able to compete on the UIU Golf team and stay actively involved in sports. I was also able to succeed in the classroom. The small class sizes and the one-on-one help I received was second to none. While I was in college I had the opportunity to start my coaching career. The Upper Iowa staff helped me build my resume and in turn, I was hired as a high school basketball coach at Starmont where I am still at five years later. Upper Iowa’s flexible class schedule allowed me to move up the coaching ladder and become the youngest head basketball coach in Iowa during my junior year of college. Throughout this time I was able to mentor athletes while being mentored by the faculty at UIU. Prior to graduation, I was placed in different schools for my student-teaching experiences. Upper Iowa’s faculty did an outstanding job of preparing me for my career. Before completing my second leg of student-teaching, I had already received a job offer from Oelwein Community School District, the site of my first placement. I know I was hired because of the preparation and experiences I received while enrolled at UIU."
