Parents & Families of Upper Iowa University
The parents and families of Upper Iowa University play an important role in their student’s education. Your awareness of Upper Iowa and your emotional support is very important to their success. This page will collect information and resources that may be helpful to you as students’ family members. Resources will be added periodically.
H1N1
Upper Iowa is taking proper precautions through education and flu clinics to help protect the health of students, faculty and staff. We have distributed university-wise the “Precautions for Spreading Viruses.” If you have questions, please contact Daryl Grove, executive director of student leadership and adventure.
Emergency Alerts
Upper Iowa has developed a system to alert the University community to any emergencies, such as severe weather or other threatening event. We communicate via phone, text and e-mail. Please encourage your student to participate in the program by providing us with their contact information. If you would like to be included in those alerts, your student may list your contact information as well. If you have questions, please contact Louise K. Stivers-Scott, dean of student development or call 563-425-5214.
Hovering or Helping
“Helicopter Parents” is the phrase that’s been developed to describe parents who become too involved in making their student’s decision about college. Our students need our support, but they also need to grow into independent decision-makers. How much is too much?” Here’s information and a quiz that may help you know.
