Commencement (one morning and two afternoon ceremonies) is Saturday, May 5, 2012 on the Upper Iowa University campus in Fayette, Iowa. The ceremonies will be held in Dorman Gymnasium.

Commencement is a family affair. In an attempt to avoid limited seating and distribution of tickets, we have expanded to three ceremonies.
- Morning Ceremony: 10:00 AM – Saturday, May 5, 2012, Dorman Gymnasium
MBA, Division of Business - Afternoon Ceremony: 1:00 PM – Saturday, May 5, 2012, Dorman Gymnasium
MPA, Division of Liberal Arts, Public Administration majors - Afternoon Ceremony: 3:30 PM - Saturday, May 5, 2012, Dorman Gymnasium

Upper Iowa University grants degrees in October, December, March, May, July, and August. The commencement ceremony held at the Fayette Campus (Fayette, Iowa) in May of each year recognizes students who have or will be completing requirements throughout the academic year (October 2011 – August 2012).
10:00 a.m.
Master of Business Administration (MBA) candidates will participate in the 10:00 a.m. ceremony. The 10:00 a.m. ceremony also includes students with the following undergraduate majors: Business, Business Administration, Management, Accounting, Marketing, Management Information Systems, Human Resources Management, Financial Management, Finance, Technology Information Management, and Emergency Disaster Management.
1:00 p.m.
Master of Public Administration (MPA) candidates will participate in the 1:00 p.m. ceremony. The 1:00 p.m. ceremony also includes students with the following undergraduate majors: Communications, English, Art, Graphic Design, Human Services, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Criminal Justice, Social Science, Interdisciplinary Studies, Public Administration, and Health Services Administration.
3:30 p.m.
Master of Education (MEd) and Master of Higher Education (MHEA) candidates will participate in the 3:30 p.m. ceremony. The 3:30 p.m. ceremony also includes students with the following undergraduate majors: Elementary Education, Industrial Technology, Physical Education, Fitness, Wellness, Athletic Training, Exercise and Sports Science, Recreation, Conservation Management, Biology, Life Science, Clinical Lab Science, Environmental Science, Mathematics, Information Technology, and Nursing.
10:00 AM CEREMONY: MBA, Division of Business
Pick up caps and gowns in the Student Center lobby between 7:30 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, May 5. Regalia will also be available for pick up on Thursday, May 3 between 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. and on Friday, May 4 between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
- Line up at 9:20 a.m. on Saturday morning.
- Processional begins at 10:00 a.m.
- Return caps & gowns to the tables in the snack bar area by 1:00 p.m. on the day of the ceremony.
- A fee of $300.00 will be assessed to participants not returning their regalia at this time.
1:00 PM CEREMONY: MPA, Division of Liberal Arts, Public Administration majors
Pick up caps and gowns in the Student Center lobby between 7:30 a.m. and 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 5. Regalia will also be available for pick up on Thursday, May 3 between 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. and on Friday, May 4 between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
- Line up at 12:20 p.m.
- Processional begins at 1:00 p.m.
- Return caps and gowns to the tables in the snack bar area by 3:00 p.m. on the day of the ceremony.
- A fee of $300.00 will be assessed to participants not returning their regalia at this time.
3:30 PM CEREMONY: MEd, MHEA, Division of Education, Division of Math & Science
Pick up caps and gowns in the Student Center lobby between 7:30 a.m. and 2:20 p.m. on Saturday, May 5. Regalia will also be available for pick up on Thursday, May 3 between 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. and on Friday, May 4 between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
- Line up at 2:45 p.m.
- Processional begins at 3:30 p.m.
- Return caps and gowns to the tables in the snack bar area by 5:00 p.m. on the day of the ceremony.
- A fee of $300.00 will be assessed to participants not returning their regalia at this time.
Academic regalia includes caps, gowns, honor cords, and tassels. Caps and gowns are pressed and ready to wear. All gowns are collarless. Corsages and excessive jewelry are discouraged. Honor cords (for undergraduate students) will be attached to gowns. Honor cords and tassels are yours to keep. Caps and gowns MUST be returned to the Student Center lobby at the conclusion of the commencement ceremony. Graduate students must return hoods at the conclusion of the ceremony unless arrangements for payment of the hood ($30) have been made in advance with the Registrar.
As you line up for the procession you will be given two name cards. You will hand one card to the person standing next to the stage and the other card to the person announcing the names. This person will be standing at a podium at the edge of the stage. If you are being recognized for honors, the honor level will also be printed on the card. Honors relate to undergraduate work.
Note: Fayette campus students - the cumulative GPA at the end of Spring Term 1 will be the GPA used to determine if honors are announced at the ceremony. The final GPA is used to determine the honor listed on the diploma. We use the Spring Term 1 GPA because grades for Spring Term 2 are not available until after the ceremony.
Center and International students - the cumulative GPA from the most recent term completed and grades received is the GPA used to determine if honors are announced at the ceremony. The final GPA is used to determine the honor listed on the diploma.
Remember - to be eligible for the magna or summa level of honors, you must have completed 60 graded semester hours with Upper Iowa University.
May diplomas will be mailed approximately 4-8 weeks following the ceremony.
Assemble by 9:20 a.m. for the 10:00 a.m. ceremony, by 12:20 p.m. for the 1:00 p.m. ceremony, and by 2:45 p.m. for the 3:30 p.m. ceremony for the Commencement Processional. If the weather is nice, participants will assemble on the sidewalks northwest of Dorman Gym. Participants will then proceed across campus in procession order and into Dorman Gymnasium. Inside the gymnasium, participants will be seated by the Faculty Marshal. In case of inclement weather, assembly will be in the Recreation Center. Look for signs designating areas for assembling.
The following information addresses many questions asked by family and guests of participants. Please share this information with them.
Time/Place:
- Participants in the morning ceremony will line up at 9:20 a.m., and the processional will begin at 10:00 a.m.
- Participants in the first afternoon ceremony will line up at 12:20 p.m., and the processional will begin at 1:00 p.m.
- Participants in the second afternoon ceremony will line up at 2:45 pm., and the processional will begin at 3:30 p.m.
- The ceremonies will be held inside Dorman Gymnasium. The seating areas are handicap accessible. There are no tickets and no limit to the number of guests you may invite.
- We plan to video stream the commencement ceremony on the web. Details will be made available at a later date.
Morning Refreshments:
- The Cafe located in the Student Center will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and has a wide variety of options for breakfast. It features a full service express beverage bar, pastries, or made to order breakfast items such as eggs, sandwiches, and pizza.
Brunch Buffet:
- A Carved Brunch Buffet will be available for all graduates, families, and friends in the Student Center Servery from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The menu includes Carved Top Round, honey glazed ham, baby red mashed potatoes, beef gravy, scalloped corn pudding, spring medley, quiche, biscuits and gravy, full salad bar and deli bar, brick oven pizza, burgers and fries, and our featured Mongolian Grill. Cost is $8.00 per adult and $5.00 for children 10 and under (beverage and tax are included in the meal total). Cash, credit cards, and personal checks will be accepted.

Photographs:
- A professional photographer will take your photograph as you receive your diploma.
Parking:
- Handicap parking is available in the parking lot east of Henderson-Wilder Library.
For people unable to attend the ceremonies in person, UIU offers, free of charge, a live streaming broadcast of the ceremonies.
