Policy Description
Upper Iowa University maintains blogging as a key element of the official UIU website (www.upperiowauniversity.tumblr.com) through a third-party server. The blogs are primarily accessed via the primary UIU website at www.uiu.edu. The blogs are designed to broaden exposure of UIU to a variety of publics who participate in social networking media. The blogs focus on promoting various aspects of Upper Iowa through the personal views of a limited number of volunteer students, faculty and staff. All bloggers sign a document that commits them to a topic as well as a frequency of updates. In addition, the document specifies appropriate guidelines for blog content as part of the official university website.
Standard Operating Procedure Attached: YES
Procedure on how bloggers are selected and approved:
-
Bloggers who wish to be considered for participation in one of the limited number of UIU blogs should volunteer by e-mail to the Office of Communications and Marketing.
-
Bloggers will include in their e-mail request a brief description of their intended blogging topic and frequency.
-
Bloggers will be approved/rejected by the Associate Vice President of Communications and Marketing dependent on space availability and topic suitability.
-
If there are more requests than capacity, blogging priorities will be based on the importance of the suggested topic and the potential size of the audience.
-
Once approved, bloggers must sign the participation agreement (aka “Guidelines for Blogging”) and complete a 30-minute training session with the E-Communications Director.
- Bloggers will adhere to, and the OCM will enforce the attached Guidelines for Blogging.
