Homecoming theme “UIU Peacocks--Champions Forever”
FAYETTE, Iowa (September 4, 2009) –The Upper Iowa University 2009 Homecoming theme is “UIU Peacocks–Champions Forever” and will be celebrated Friday and Saturday, Sept. 25-26.
Even more activities have been added to this year’s schedule to make it an event-filled, memorable weekend for alumni, friends and students.
Homecoming kicks off Friday with the Top ‘O the Clock Peacock Walk, an organized walk on Fayette’s recently expanded trail led by Paul and Sharroll Richards. The annual Alumni and Friends Golf Tournament, a four-person best-shot at Big Rock Country Club, begins with registration at 10:30 a.m. and shotgun start at 11:30. Food and prizes are included with preregistration requested, either online at www.uiu.edu or call 563-425-5244.
The Hall of Fame Banquet begins at 7 p.m. Friday (social hour at 6 p.m.) in Garbee Hall, followed by the traditional bonfire/pep rally behind the Recreation Center at 9:15 p.m.
The Homecoming parade downtown Fayette is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday. UIU retiree Don Wolfe will serve as grand marshal.
The football game against St. Cloud follows in Eischeid Stadium at 1 p.m., preceded by a tailgate picnic at the north end of the football field from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. and a post-goal party after the game beginning at 3 p.m.
The Alumni Banquet will complete the weekend’s festivities on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. (5:30 p.m. social hour) and will honor the reunion classes and alumni award winners.
Other Homecoming weekend activities include reunions, campus tours, history treasure quest, Peacock Geocache Challenge, UIU Art Department faculty exhibit in Bing-Davis Memorial Gallery, and disc golf tournament. In Garbee Hall on Saturday, a continental breakfast will be served and the Peacock Connection store will be open to purchase UIU apparel.
The Advancement and Alumni Center on Union Street will be open both days for alumni registration and information: Friday (1-5 p.m.) and Saturday (9 a.m.-1 p.m.). Alumni and friends are encouraged to register and receive a free Homecoming button and coupon for a free gift at the Peacock Connection (while supplies last).
