UIU-Waterloo receives ESGR Award
FAYETTE, Iowa (September 11, 2008) - Upper Iowa University's Waterloo Center was presented with the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) State Chairman's award by Dr. Susan Dawson, chair of ESGR Veterans of Northeast Iowa.
Dawson stated that no more than three State Chair awards are given out annually and Upper Iowa's is the only one this year. "This award is in appreciation for Upper Iowa University's unfailing support of military members in this area," said Dawson. "Whenever we need to use their facilities, they have never said no and sometimes even supply food for our events, at no charge."
She added, "The State Chairman's award is evidence that he has taken note of our accolades that Upper Iowa is an organization that truly cares about our military men and women." Several local military organizations have used the UIU-Waterloo facilities for meetings, training sessions, hosting presenters, and luncheons.
"Thank you for this award, which I am happy to receive on behalf of the staff at the Waterloo Center and the entire Upper Iowa University community," said Michael Davidson, Waterloo Center coordinator, who accepted the award. "Upper Iowa has a long history of supporting and educating military personnel and their families."
In addition to receiving the award, Davidson signed an official Statement of Support for the Guard and Reserve and will be added to a long list of ESGR supporters.
According to Dawson, 47 percent of Iowa National Guard members have been deployed two or three times to current conflicts overseas. ESGR's purpose is to promote understanding and support between employers and National Guard and reserve member employees.
