NWCA names UIU wrestling #6 in nation
Six Individuals Named in Preseason Rankings
FAYETTE, Iowa (October 26, 200 -- The Upper Iowa University (UIU) wrestling program has again been recognized by the NCAA Division II National Wrestling Coaches’ Association (NWCA) as one of the top programs in the nation. Its preseason poll ranked the Peacock wrestling team No. 6 in the country for the 2007-08 season, receiving 119 points to earn the spot.
There are six ranked wrestlers on this year’s team, including junior Tyler Mumbulo (ranked No. 6 at 125 lbs.); senior Tee Adams (ranked No. 6 at 149 lbs.); sophomore Travis Eggers (ranked No. 5 at 157 lbs.); sophomore Mitch Norton (ranked No. 8 at 165 lbs.); senior Brady Hakeman (ranked No. 8 at 174 lbs.), and senior Dan Goodson (ranked No. 4 at Heavyweight).
The Peacocks open their season Nov. 10 by splitting to wrestle in two tournaments--the Pointer Open in Stevens Point, Wisc. and the Loras Open in Dubuque. On Nov. 17, the team will compete in the Auggie Open hosted by Augsburg College in Minneapolis. Upper Iowa’s first home action will be Dec. 16 with the Peacocks hosting the No. 20 Bulldogs of Truman State at 2:00 p.m.
Upper Iowa University will host the 2008 NCAA Division II National Championships at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on March 14 and 15, 2008.
