Déjà Vu… Schmidt named Northern Sun Conference Golfer of the Week
FAYETTE, Iowa (October 1, 2007) -- Rachael Schmidt, a junior from Elk River, Minnesota, has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Women’s Golfer of the Week for the second week in a row. This honor is the fifth NSIC Player of the Week award earned by an Upper Iowa student-athlete this year and second this season by an Upper Iowa women’s golfer.
Schmidt earned the award for her play at the Concordia University Invite where she earned her third medalist honor of the season that fueled the team to a first place tie with Nebraska-Omaha. At the end of the week, the junior led the Peacocks to a fourth place finish in the Mustang Invite, hosted by SW Minnesota State, with a 160 (82-78). The score placed her fifth in the tournament, five strokes back of the medalist, but she was the leading Northern Sun golfer in the tourney.
The Peacocks are currently playing in the Winona State Invitational as their final tune-up before the first half of the Northern Sun Conference Championships next weekend, Oct. 8 and 9, in Becker, Minn.
