Book reading by UIU professor in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month
FAYETTE, Iowa (October 4, 2007
) -- In commemoration of Hispanic Heritage Month celebrated each year from Sept. 15-Oct.15, Upper Iowa University (UIU) Associate Professor of Social Sciences and Anthropology Dr. Roland Vazquez will perform an English-language reading on Thurs., Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. in the ICN room of the Fayette Community Library (entrance through the back of the library).
Vazquez will read the short story, “Teresa, poverina mia,” by Bernardo Atxaga from Spain’s Basque Country. Bernardo Atxaga is an internationally-acclaimed contemporary author whose novel Obabakoak greatly contributed to the resurgence of modern literature in the Basque language.
The reading is free and everyone is welcome to attend.
