Student government leaders attend NCSL
FAYETTE, Iowa (November 23, 2009) – Upper Iowa University’s student government leaders joined representatives from over 100 other colleges and universities at the National Conference on Student Leadership (NCSL) in Los Angeles, Oct. 22-25.
Student government President Justin Merchant, Oregon, WI; Vice President Tiffany Whitcher, Waterloo, IL; and Treasurer Allison Rodenberg, McGregor, IA represented Upper Iowa. The group was chaperoned by Daryl Grove, UIU executive director of student leadership and adventure.
The NCSL program has provided students with leadership training for the past 30 years and the opportunity to gain experience by networking with student leaders and advisors from all areas of higher education. The October conference consisted of a variety of speakers and workshop sessions.
“Our students were able to not only learn from professionals, but share ideas and theories used by other colleges,” said Grove. “We have an extremely strong core of student leaders here at Upper Iowa University that is committed to making a positive impact here on campus.”
The students were also able to take in a few California sites, including the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Santa Monica Pier.
