Henk’s ‘Words on paper’ exhibit at Upper Iowa University
FAYETTE, Iowa (Nov. 6, 2009) – Upper Iowa University will exhibit ‘Words on paper’ by contemporary artist Diane Henk in the Bing-Davis Gallery, Edgar Fine Arts Hall, on the Fayette campus from Nov. 12 through Dec. 15.
Additionally, Henk will host a lecture on campus Thurs., Nov. 12 in Edgar, Room 310, at 1 p.m., followed by an artist’s reception in the Gallery from 3:30 - 5 p.m. All events are free and open to the public.
‘Words on Paper’ is an exhibit that focuses on mixed-media works on paper and installations, consisting of several selections that incorporate language as form and uses the layering of materials to give a subtle visual depth to each piece while recording its creative process. Henk says, “The use of language alone can often stir the viewer’s imagination as equally as visual imagery itself.”
Henk is a full-time, practicing artist since receiving her BFA in painting from Kansas City Art Institute in 1983. Until recently, she has exhibited her work through university galleries, small museums and art centers. However, in 2009 her art was included in group exhibitions at the Contemporary Art Museum, St. Louis; the H&R Block Artspace, Kansas City; and the Moberg Gallery, Des Moines, who currently represents Henk. Her pieces have also been collected by the Sioux City Art Center, as well as private individuals.
Upper Iowa’s Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Questions regarding this exhibit can be directed to John Siblik, associate professor of art, at 563-425-5241 or e-mail siblikj@uiu.edu.
